IMPORTANT CURRENT AFFAIRS SEPTEMBER 6th, 2017
1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a
two-day visit to Myanmar.
a.
This is his maiden bilateral visit to Myanmar.
b.
During this visit, he is expected to work on a range of subjects
including security and counter-terrorism.
c.
Modi to hold talks with the State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung
San Suu Kyitoday.
d.
Agreements on maritime security, capacity building and health
likely to be signed.
2.
French Defence Minister Florence Parly has announced that the country is
going to begin arming its surveillance and intelligence drones,
saying the move will help France's military become "more
effective".
3.
The leaders of BRICS Countries have signed 4
MOUs during the 9th BRICS Summit, which was recently held at
Xiamen, China.
a.
The Signed MOUs are are :
i. BRICS Action Agenda on Economic and
Trade Cooperation
ii. BRICS Action Plan for Innovation
Cooperation(2017-2020)
iii. MoU between BRICS Business
Council and New Development Bank on Strategic Cooperation
4.
NITI Aayog on 6th Septemberlaunched National Nutrition Strategy.
a.
Aim of this Strategy : Kuposhan Mukt Bharat.
b.
It intends at bringing nutrition to centre-stage of National
Development Agenda.
c.
It lays down roadmap for targeted action to address India’s nutritional
needs.
5.
The Gujarat government on 6th Septemberbanned
the Blue Whale Challenge in the state, citing increased
incidents of suicide because of the game.
a.
Instructions have been issued to all schools asking them to
ensure students don't fall prey to the game.
6.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 6th Septemberlaunched
two new contraceptivesAntara and Chayya, an injectable
drug and a pill, in 10 states.
a.
The contraceptives are being launched under Mission
Parivar Vikas, a central family planning initiative, and are available
for free in medical colleges and district hospitals.
b.
The 10 states are :
i. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh,
Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Haryana, West Bengal, Odisha, Delhi and Goa.
7.
Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu gave her assent to the Jharkhand
Religious Freedom Bill, 2017.
a.
The state government will now issue notification on the
Religious Freedom Bill, after which it will become an Act.
b.
With this bill, Jharkhand becomes 7th state in the
country to have anti-conversion law.
i. Other six states are :
1.
Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat andHimachal Pradesh.
8.
Senior journalist Gauri Lankesh (55) was shot
dead at her house in Bengaluru.
a.
She was a veteran columnist and ran a Kannada weekly 'Gauri
Lankesh Pathrike'.
b.
She was known to write against communal violence and Hindu
extremism.
9.
Arunachal Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister, Jomde
Kena (52), passed away after a prolonged illness
a. . Kena, who represented the Likabali constituency, was elected as
the Deputy Speaker in the Nabam Tuki government.
10.
As many as 219 teachers were awarded the National
Award for Teachers by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Teacher's
Day (5th September).
a.
Note : This was the first time that the Vice President, instead of
the President gave away these awards.
b.
President Ram Nath Kovind later interacted with the awardees at
the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Scientists associated with the European Council for
Nuclear Research (CERN), which houses the Large Hadron
Collider (LHC), the world's largest particle accelerator,
are building a new detector, a scintillating fibre tracker dubbed 'SciFi'.
a.
SciFi will help them to harvest more data from the
collider.
12.
The CEO of Unique Identification Authority of India
(UIDAI), Ajay Bhushan Pandey has on 6th Septemberannounced that the banks
that fail to open Aadhaar enrolment centres in a stipulated
10% of branches till September 30 will be fined ₹20,000 per uncovered branch every month.
13.
India has begun exporting its 1st consignment of 30 tonnes
of high-speed diesel toMyanmar via land route.
a.
This is a part of PM Narendra Modi's goal of promoting the 'Act
East Policy' and enhancing hydrocarbon trade with neighbouring
countries, the Oil Ministry said.
b.
Note : Myanmar previously relied on imports from Thailand and
Singapore to meet its consumption needs.
14.
Australia's biggest bank, the Commonwealth Bank of
Australia, was on 6th Septemberhit with a class-action lawsuit on
behalf of shareholders over a money laundering scandal.
a.
Litigation financier IMF Bentham is funding the
lawsuit.
15.
Indian shooter Ankur Mittal has won a Silver
medal in the double trap event at theISSF Shotgun World
Championship in Moscow today.
a.
This is his first silver at a World Championship.
b.
Note : In the double trap junior category, India's Ahvar
Rizvi also won silver.
