IMPORTANT CURRENT AFFAIRS OF OCTOBER 10th, 2017
1. On 10th, October is World Mental Health Day.
a. The aim of this day is to
raise awareness about mental health issues.
b. Theme for 2017 : "Mental health
in the workplace"
2. Germany is going to limit
the intake of refugees to 2 lakh annually, as part of a deal between
German Chancellor Angela Merkel's party and its coalition ally that has long
demanded a cap on the intake.
3. Four Dutch political
parties On 10th, October agreed to form
a coalition government after 208 days of negotiations, the
longest time taken in the country's history to form a government.
4. President Ram Nath Kovind
has inaugurated the 5th edition of India Water Week (IWW).
a. Theme of 5th India Water
Week : “Water
and Energy for Inclusive Growth”
5. The 1st BIMSTEC
Disaster Management Exercise-2017 (DMEx-2017) kicked off in New
Delhi On 10th, October .
a. This exercise will be
held during 10th to 13th October 2017.
b. About 135 delegates from
all BIMSTEC member States are participating in the exercise.
c. The main focus of BIMSTEC
DMEx-2017 is to create synergy and synchronize efforts to institutionalize
regional cooperation and inter-governmental coordination efforts on disaster
response among Member States.
6. Karnataka government is going to
launch 'Anila Bhagya' scheme in December, to provide free
LPG connections to families living Below Poverty Line.
a. Aim of Anila Bhagya
Scheme : To
provide clean cooking fuel to reduce health hazards caused by the use of
conventional fossil fuel.
7. Madhya Pradesh is going to provide financial
assistance of ₹2
lakh to widows who want to remarry. Singh
8. To accelerate full
immunization coverage to more than 90% by December 2018, the Union Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare has launched Intensified Mission Indradhanush
(IMI).
a. Through this programme,
Government aims to reach each and every child under two years of age and all
those pregnant women who have been left uncovered under the routine
immunisation programme.
9. Jio Payments Bank will begin it's
operations in December.
a. Important Note : Jio Payments Bank is a
70:30 joint venture between Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries and the State
Bank of India (SBI).
10. The
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has mandated e-commerce firms to settle
seller payments within two days from the date of intimation of
completion of transaction.

The Gujarat government
On 10th, October cut the Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel by 4%,
becoming the first state to do so.
a. After the reduction in
VAT, petrol will get cheaper by ₹2.93 per litre and diesel by ₹2.72 per litre in the
state.
12. Private
lender Kotak Mahindra Bank On 10th, October crossed
₹2 trillion in market capitalisation for the first time, after its stock surged
to an all-time high.
a. This makes it the fourth
listed bank and 21st company to achieve this mark in
India.
b. Important Note : HDFC Bank is the most
valued bank in India with a market capitalisation of ₹4.66 trillion.
13. To
educate people on e-transactions, formal sector borrowings and insurance
purchases, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is going to launch financial
literacy drive in 80 blocks in 9 states on pilot
basis.
a. It will be commissioned
in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha, Karnataka, Telangana,
Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh by 6 NGOs in collaboration
with sponsor banks.
14. Professor Jagdish
Mukhi On 10th, October took
oath as the new Governor of Assam.
15. Elon
Musk-led space exploration startup SpaceX has successfully
launched its 14th Falcon 9 rocket in 2017 from
California.
a.The rocket which carried
10 satellites to orbit for American communications company Iridium, has also
returned to its floating drone ship in the Pacific Ocean.
b. The launch marked SpaceX's
third mission for Iridium.
16. Iceland has become the smallest country ever to qualify for
the final stage of the FIFA World Cup, after topping its qualifying
group.
17. The Indian
women's cricket team will begin their ICC Women's
Championshipcampaign against South Africa in February
2018.
a. The ICC Women's
Championship will see participation from eight national teams taking on each
other in series of three ODIs on a home or away basis.
b. This is the second
edition of the championship, set to culminate in 2020.
18. 16-year-old Jeakson
Thounaojam became the first player in history to score for
India in a FIFA World Cup.
19.India’s Anupama
Ramachandran won World Open Under-16 Snooker Championshiptitle
in girls category held at St. Petersburg in Russia.
