IMPORTANT CURRENT AFFAIRS OF OCTOBER 5th, 2017
1.    On 5th October is World Teachers' Day.
a.     UNESCO proclaimed 5 October to be World Teachers’ Day in the year 1994, celebrating the great step made for teachers on 5 October 1966, when a special intergovernmental conference convened by UNESCO in Paris adopted theUNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, in cooperation with the ILO.
b.    Theme of the year 2017 : “Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers

c.      Note : National Teachers Day in India is observed on 5th September.
2.Russia has started delivering six second-hand MiG-29 fighter jets worth over 4,500 crore to Serbia for free. 
a.     Serbia will also receive 30 battle tanks and 30 armoured vehicles from Russia at no cost.
3. During the President Ram Nath Kovind's 1st visit, India and the Republic of Djibouti have signed an agreement to establish regular Foreign Office-level bilateral consultations between both countries.
4.    The Union Cabinet has approved Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Ministry of Railways, and Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications of Swiss Confederation on Technical Cooperation in Rail Sector.  
5.    Valmiki Jayanti is being observed On 5th October. 
a.     It is the birth anniversary of the 1st poet of Sanskrit literature Maharishi Valmiki. 
b.    President of India Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted the nation on the occasion.
6.The Union Cabinet On 5th October gave its approval to rename Gujarat's Kandla Port asDeendayal Port after BJP ideologue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. 
a.     Note : Ports in India are generally named after the city/town in which they are located, however, in special cases, the government has renamed ports after great leaders in the past after due consideration.
7. The Union Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with Other Union Ministries and State Governments has launched nationwide ‘Paryatan Parv’ to showcase cultural diversity of country and reinforce the principle of ‘Tourism for All’. 
a.     It was inaugurated at Humayun’s Tomb and will be held across the country from the 5th to 25th October 2017.
b.    Objective of Paryatan Parv To draw focus on the benefits of tourism.
8.The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) On 5th October launched a Mobile applicationwhich will allow commuters to rate the highways in the country and track the status of its 3,000 ongoing projects
a.     The app, which is currently used by NHAI functionaries, will be available to the general public within two months, NHAI Chairman Deepak Kumar said.
9.    The Government has constituted a high-level committee for proper management of water resources in North Eastern Region (NER).
a.     The Committee is tasked to facilitate optimising benefits of appropriate water management in form of agriculture, bio-diversity conservation, hydro-electric power, reduced flood damage erosion, inland water transport, forestry, fishery and eco-tourism. 
b.    Head of this committee Rajiv Kumar (Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog)
10. The 2017 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Japan-born English authorKazuo Ishiguro
a.     The 62-year-old has written eight books, and scripts for film and television, with most associated themes being memory, time, and self-delusion. 
11. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the 3rd most followed world leader on Twitter with over 34 million followers, according to the latest report by Twiplomacy. 
a.     US President Donald Trump topped the list followed by Pope Francis.
12.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) On 5th October announced that interoperability amongst KYC compliant Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) will be implemented within six months. 
a.     The revised norms in this regard will be issued by the bank on October 11. 
b.    With this, users will be able to transfer funds between mobile wallet of one company or a bank to another as per requirements.
13.          Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has topped Forbes India Rich List for the tenth consecutive year with a wealth of $38 billion. 
a.     Wipro Chairman Azim Premji is second on the list with a wealth of $19 billion, half of Ambani's.
14. The Mongolian Parliament On 5th October confirmed Ukhnaa Khurelsukh as the country'snew Prime Minister
15.The newly appointed Meghalaya GovernorGanga Prasad, On 5th October sworn in as the 17th governor of the state at a function at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong.
16. Pooja Kadian has became the first ever Indian sportsperson to win a Gold medal at the Wushu World Championship
17. Racer Mahaveer Raghunathan beat 19 European racers to become the first Indianto clinch the Boss GP Championship (Formula Class)
