a. 2018
ASEAN Dengue Day Theme : “One Asean Community
Against Dengue”

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).
a. This
day was launched on June 15, 2006 by the International Network for the
Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United
Nations.
b. The
purpose of this day is to provide an opportunity for communities around the
world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons
by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic
processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has
invited North Korean leader Kim Jong-unto attend
the Eastern Economic Forum which is scheduled to be held in
September 2018 at Russia.

US President Donald Trump has
been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by two
Norwegian MPs for his efforts in reaching an agreement with North Korea to
denuclearise the Korean peninsula.

For the first time in over a decade, North
and South Korea today held military talks.
a. The
talks came two days after US President Donald Trump said he would stop war
games with the South, following his summit with North Korean leader Kim
Jong-un.

The 10th Meeting of Global
Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (GAELF) was held in New
Delhi, India.
a. This is
second time India hosted meeting of GAELF. Earlier in 2002, India had hosted
the meeting.
b. This
meeting recognized that India has highest burden of Lymphatic
Filariasis (LF) and there is need of taking leadership role to
Eliminate lymphatic filariasis.
c. India’s
Accelerated Plan for Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) 2018 was also
released in the meeting.

Gujarat has
topped the Niti Aayog's composite water management index (CWMI),
while tribal state Jharkhand was adjudged as the worst
performer.
a. Gujarat
is followed by Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra on the
index.
b. In the
northeastern and Himalayan states, Tripura has been adjudged as the top state
in 2016-17 followed by Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Assam.

Puducherry LG Kiran Bedi has inaugurated
a tourist kiosk or robocop called 'Singham'(Lion).
a. Singham
will guide people to the nearest police station, hospitals, tourist spots,
available transport services and other facilities.
b. The
robocop also features a CCTV camera and microphone that will help the public
communicate with the cops posted at the Tourist Police Station.

Irish author Mike McCormack has
won the €100,000 (nearly ₹80 lakh) International
Dublin literary award 2018 for his one-sentence novel "Solar
Bones".
a. Note :
McCormack wrote the 224-page book without using full stops, technically making
the novel one sentence-long.

Gujarat will
become the 1st Indian state to get completely covered under
the piped gas distribution network , once Petroleum and
Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) completes bidding process for distributing
natural gas in eight geographical areas (GAs) in Gujarat.

Japanese conglomerate SoftBank is
going to invest up to $100 billion in solar power
generation project in India.
a. The
company is expected to make the investment through a fund backed by Saudi
Arabia's government.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated
the 1st office of leading defence PSU Bharat
Electronics Limited in Hanoi, reflecting India's deepening
military cooperation with Vietnam.

al-Razzaz was sworn in as Jordan's new Prime Minister.

replaces Hani al-Mulki who resigned following mass protests
over price hikes and other government economic policies.
