IMPORTANT CURRENT AFFAIRS OF

29th July International Tiger Day.
a. The day
is held annually on 29th July to raise awareness for tiger conservation.
b. It was
founded in 2010 at the St. Petersburg Tiger Summit, with the aim to double the
big cat population by 2022.
c. The
goal of this day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural
habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger
conservation.

To counter Iran's military expansion in the
region, the United States is planning to establish an "Arab
NATO" force.
a. The
proposed security and political alliance, known as the Middle East
Strategic Alliance (MESA) will consist of the US, Saudi Arabia, the
UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt and Jordan.

All 50 states of United States now
allow Breastfeeding in public, with Utah and Idaho recently
joining the rest of the country in legalising it.
a. Mothers
will now not face public indecency charges and even fines levied by police on
feeding their infants in public.
b. Note :
Breastfeeding in public is legal in all of United Kingdom and Australia.

The Election Commission of
Pakistan released the results of 11th General Elections over
56 hours after voting concluded.
a. Former
cricketer Imran Khan's political party Pakistan
Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has emerged as the single largest party with 116
seats.
b. However,
Imran's party is still short of the simple majority of 137 seats required to
form the government.

To control viral hepatitis C, the Union
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched National Viral
Hepatitis Control Programme on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day
(July 28).
a. Aim of
this programme : To combat viral hepatitis and reduce mortality and morbidity
associated with it.
b. Note : This
programme is part of National Health Mission, under which,
expensive antiviral for hepatitis B and C infections will be made available
free of cost at all government hospitals.

To wipe out corruption, the Indian Railways
has launched a new programme titled Mission Satyanishtha.
a. It was
first of its kind event organised by any government organization in the
country.
b. Main
objectives Mission Satyanishtha :
i. To
train every employee to understand need and value of ethics in personal and
public life.
ii. To deal
with ethical dilemmas in life and public governance.
iii. To help
understand policies of Indian Railways on ethics and integrity and employee’s
role in upholding same.
iv. To develop
inner governance through tapping inner resources.
7.
India's largest lender State Bank
of India (SBI), Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Bank
of Baroda (BoB) are planning to introduce a performance-linked
salary structure for the senior management.
a. As in
Private Sector Banks, the salary will have fixed and variable components.
b. The
salary structure, which will be only applicable to employees above the general
manager level, will need the government's approval.

Digital payments major Paytm's
parent company One97 Communications is going to build the Headquartes
of Paytm at Noida's Sector 137.
a. Spread
across 10 acres, the new campus is expected to house more than 15,000
employees.
9.
Prime Minister Narendra
Modi today launched 81 investment projects worth ₹60,000 crore in a
record breaking event in Uttar Pradesh.
a. While
Reliance Jio Com and BSNL are investing ₹10,000 crore and ₹5,000 crore respectively for laying optical cable network in the
state, Adani Power is investing ₹2,500 crore to lay the Ghatampur-Hapur transmission line.

Former Kerala Minister for Local Self
Government Cherkallam Abdullah (76), died after a long
term illness today.
a. He is a
four-time MLA from Manjeswaram in Kasaragod district.
11.
The World Meteorological Organization
(WMO) has designated India as Nodal
Centre for developing customized model to issue advance warning of
floods to Asian countries, including Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand.
a. The
model will be called as Flash Flood Guidance System.
b. Indian
Meteorological Department (IMD) under Ministry of Earth Sciences will work to
customize this weather model.

Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), the
national governing body for football in Brazil, reappointed Coach Adenor
Leonardo Bacchi (nicknamed as Coach Tite) until the
end of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
13.
Mahesh Kumar Malani of the
Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) has become the 1st Hindu
candidate to win a general National Assembly seat
in Pakistan.
a. Note :
Earlier this year, PPP's Krishna Kumari had become the 1st Hindu
woman to be elected to Pakistan's Senate.

Insurance regulator Insurance
Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has constituted
a 16-member committee to examine motor third party insurance pricing aspects and
make recommendations on the premium rates for 2019-20.

Indian shuttler Sourabh Verma today
won the 2018 Russian Open Men's Singles title by defeating Koki
Watanabe of Japan.
