The bi-annual talks between India and Bangladesh border
forces began in New Delhi today.
a. The
meeting is aimed at increasing bilateral cooperation in checking
trans-border crimes such as smuggling of drugs and narcotics, cattle
lifting and gun running across the international border between the two
countries.
2.
The 4th International Ayurveda
Congress (IAvC) was recentlhy held at Leiden, Netherlands.
a. The
Congress was jointly organized by International Maharishi Ayurveda Foundation,
Netherlands; All India Ayurvedic Congress, New Delhi and International Academy
of Ayurveda, Pune in association with Indian Embassy in Netherlands.

The 3rd Summit of the Forum on
China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) opened today in Beijing.
a. During
the summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged $60 billion (over
₹4 lakh crore) in
financial support to Africa.
b. The
support will be provided in the form of government assistance as well as
investment and financing by financial institutions and companies.

The 6th East Asia Summit – Economic
Ministers meeting EAS-EMM) & 15th India-ASEAN Economic
Ministers Meeting (AEM) was held in Singapore.
a. Commerce
& Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu participated in both the
events representing India.
5.
The US military has decided
to cancel 300 million dollars aid to Pakistan over its failure
to take decisive actions against terror groups.
a. The
move, which needs to be approved by the US Congress, is part of a broader
suspension of aid announced in January.
6.
The Union Health Ministry has released Draft
Rules on sale of Drugs by e-pharmacies in order to regulate online
sale of medicines.
a. The
draft rules state that all the e-pharmacies will have to be registered
compulsorily with the Central Drugs Standard Control
Organization.
b. The
e-pharmacies will not be allowed to sell tranquiliser, psychotropic
drugs, narcotics and habit-forming drugs.

Defence Minister Nirmala
Sitharaman today visited the Balbir forward post in Jammu
and Kashmir.
a. With
this, she became the first in her office to visit the post.
b. Note : The
Balbir post is located in Keran sector which has seen numerous action against
infiltrators.

Indian poet-diplomat Mr. Abhay
K became the 1st Indian poet invited to record his
poems at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.
a. The
prestigious reading series is called ‘The Poet and the poem’.
9.
India and Cyprus have
signed two MoUs in the field of sharing of financial intelligence and environment.
a. The
MoUs were signed between the two countries after delegation-level talks
between Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Cyprus
President Nicos Anastasiades in Nicosia today.
10.
The Indian Space Research Organisation
(ISRO) is going to conduct 19 missions, including 10
satellites and nine launch vehicles, in the next seven months between September
and March.
a. It will
include the launch of India's second moon mission Chandrayaan-2.
b. Chairman
of ISRO : K Sivan

Justice Ranjan Gogoi will
be taking over as the new Chief Justice of India on October 3,
2018, according to reports. His name has been recommended for the post by
current CJI Dipak Misra, who retires on October 2, 2018.

US Army General Austin Miller has
assumed command of the 41-nation NATO mission in Afghanistan following
a handover ceremony.
a. Miller
took over from General John Nicholson, who held the post for more
than two years.
13.
R Madhavan has
been appointed as Chairman and Managing Director of defence PSU Hindustan
Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
a. He will
replace T Suvarna Raju.
