The United Nation's World Statistics Day is
celebrated at an interval of every five years on 20th October.
a. This day was
started in the year 2010.
b. It was last
celebrated under the leadership of former General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon in the
year 2015.
c. The United
Nations analyses the statistical data of several countries under a specific
theme at an interval of five years on World Statistics Day.
d. In the year
2010, World Statistics Day theme was 'Celebrating the many achievements of
official statistics'.
e. In 2015, the
theme was 'Better data, better lives', focusing on the critical role of
high-quality official statistical information in analysis and informed policy
decision-making in support of sustainable development.

India is going to host the 4th edition of Global Partners' Forum during
12th and 13th December 2018 in New Delhi.
a. The Partnership
for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH) will unite over 100
countries' representatives to discuss issues, strategies and solutions to
women's, children's and adolescents' health.

One of the four registered political parties in Bhutan, Druk
Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) is going to form new government in Bhutan.
a. The party has
won 30 seats in 47 member National Assembly, the lower house of the parliament.
b. Important
Note : This is the 1st time in Bhutan’s decade old
parliamentary democracy that a new party has been chosen to form
the government.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived in
India on a three-day visit.
a. Aim of this
visit : To boost ties in a range of areas, including trade, investment
and maritime security.
b. During this
visit, he called on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and reviewed the
progress of India-assisted development projects in the island nation.
c. Ms Swaraj and
Mr Wickremesinghe also discussed ways to boost ties between the two countries.
d. Home Minister
Rajnath Singh also called on Mr Wickremesinghe and discussed issues related to
security and anti-terror cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.

The world's tallest statue, the Statue of Unity dedicated
to the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is all set
to be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31st October, the birth
anniversary of Sardar Patel.
a. The work
of 182-meter tall statue has been completed after round the
clock work by 3,400 labourers and 250 engineers at Sadhu Bet
island on Narmada River in Gujarat.
b. Prime
Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of this project on 31st
October 2013 when he was the chief minister of Gujarat.
c. The Statue of
Unity has been built at the cost of about Rs.2400 crore.

Actor Ruhaan Rajput, won the Mid-day
Young Achiever Icons Award for the year 2018.
a. Ruhaan was
recognised for his work in the industry in a short span of time by Amruta
Fadnavis, the wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.

Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed was sworn in
as the new Prime Minister of Yemen.
a. Maeen was
appointed as Prime Minister by Yemen's President Abdu-Rabbu
Mansour Hadi earlier this week, replacing his sacked
predecessor Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr,.

external committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Aftab Alam to
probe the sexual harassment allegation levelled against its consulting
editor Vinod Dua by filmmaker Nishtha Jain.

American online social media and social networking service
company Facebook has hired former UK deputy Prime
Minister Nick Clegg as Head of it's global policy and
communications team.
a. Clegg is
going to replace Elliot Schrage who had resigned from the
position at Facebook in June this year.

Steel Association has elected JSW Steel CMD Sajjan
Jindal as its Treasurer.
a. The
association has also appointed Tata Steel MD T V Narendran and
ArcelorMittal Chief L N Mittal as its members.
11.The 2018 World
Wrestling Championships began today at Budapest (Hungary).
a. This is the
15th edition of the Championships.
b. Asian Games
gold medalist Bajrang Punia to be India's best bet for
a medal as a 30-member team seeks a strong performance at the event.
12.Indian seamer Praveen
Kumar ended his 11-year-long cricket career by announcing his
retirement from the sport.
