(1st November) is World Vegan Day.
a. This day was
established in 1994 by Louise Wallis, then President & Chair of The Vegan
Society.
2.
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has lifted
the suspension of the Parliament.
a. He had
suspended the Parliament after sacked PM Ranil Wickremesinghe had asked for a
session to prove his parliamentary majority.
b. The US had
called on Sri Lanka to reconvene the Parliament amid the political crisis.

6 States- Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya
Pradesh and Union Territory of Lakshadweep celebrate their
Foundation day today.

Fulfilling the long-standing demand of the Odisha government,
the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved
the renaming of Jharsuguda Airport, Odisha as “Veer Surendra Sai
Airport, Jharsuguda”.
5.
The researchers of IIT, Madras have designed India's
first indigenously developed microprocessor titled "Shakti".
a. Shakti could
be used for mobile computing systems, defence and nuclear sectors.
b. The 'Shakti'
family of processors was fabricated at ISRO's Chandigarh semi-conductor
laboratory, making it the first 'RISC V Microprocessor' to be completely
designed and made in India.

Justice Vijai Kumar Bist was sworn in
as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court.
a. Sikkim
Governor Ganga Prasad administered the oath of office at Ashirwad Hall, Raj
Bhavan.
b. He replaces
Justice Satish Kumar Agnihotri.

The ACC has approved the appointment of S. S.
Deswal as Director General, Indo Tibetan Border
Police (ITBP).
a. He took charge
from Shri R K Pachnanda, the outgoing DG of ITBP.

The Cabinet has cleared the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) between India and South
Korea for strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism.
a. The MoU is
aimed at expanding cooperation in data related to tourism and between tourism
stakeholders, including hotels and tour operators.
b. It will also
seek to establish exchange programmes for cooperation in human resource
development.

The cabinet also approved the signing of a memorandum of
understanding (MoU) between India and Korea for
strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism.
a. The main
objectives of the MoU are to expand bilateral cooperation in tourism, including
cooperation in data related to tourism, between tourism stakeholders, including
hotels and tour operators, to establish exchange programmes for cooperation in
human resource development and encourage investment in the tourism and
hospitality sectors.
10. India has jumped 23
places to secure the 77th position out of 190 countries in
the World Bank's 'Ease of Doing Business' ranking.
a. India, which
ranked 137 in the starting a business category and 52 in dealing with
construction permits category, is the highest-ranked South Asian
country.
b. Last year,
India had jumped a record 30 places to rank 100th.

11. Indian
filmmaker Satyajit Ray's epic masterpiece 'Pather Panchali' has
been included in the BBC's 100 Best Foreign Language Films List.
a. Pather
Panchali which was ranked 15th in the list, is the only film from India to
feature in the list.
b. The list has
been topped by Akira Kurosawa's 'Seven Samurai'.
c. Some of the
notable films that featured in the list are — Kurosawa’s “Rashomon “, Wong
Kar-wai’s “In the Mood for Love”, Andrei Tarkovsky’s “The Mirror”, Asghar
Farhadi’s “A Separation”, Guillermo del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth”, Ingmar
Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal” and Alfonso Cuaron’s “Y Tu Mama Tambien”, among
others.
12. Nobel Prize
Winner Malala Yousafzai will be honored with the 2018
Gleitsman Award for her work promoting girls’ education.
a. Note : Malala
became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014when
she was recognised for her global work supporting schooling for all children.
13. 19-time world
champion Pankaj Advani became the 1st Indian to
win an Asian Snooker Tour event after defeating
China's Ju Reti in the final held at Jinan, China.
14. India defeated
Windies by 9 wickets in the fifth ODI at Thiruvananthapuram to clinch the
five-match series 3-1.
a. This is
India's 8th consecutive ODI series win against Windies.
15. Former India
captain Rahul Dravid today received the ICC Hall
of Fame Commemorative Cap from former captain Sunil Gavaskar ahead of
the fifth India-Windies ODI at Thiruvananthapuram's Greenfield International
Stadium.
