(29th July) is International
Tiger Day.
a. The day is
held annually on 29th July to raise awareness for tiger conservation.
b. It was
founded in 2010 at the St. Petersburg Tiger Summit, with the aim to double the
big cat population by 2022.
c. The goal of
this day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of
tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation.

President Ram Nath Kovind has arrived
in West African country Benin on the 1st leg of his 3 nations'
tour (Benin, Gambia and Guinea).
a. With this, he
became the 1st Indian head of state to visit the country.
b. During this
visit, Kovind will hold talks with his Beninese counterpart Patrice
Talon in Cotonou.
c. Several agreements
will be signed between the two countries following talks.

Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has
inaugurated the India-Nepal Logistics Summit 2019 in
Kathmandu, Nepal.
a. Government
representatives and trade community from India and Nepal participated in the
conference.

On occasion of Global Tiger Day 2019 Prime
Minister Narendra Modi today released the
results of 4th cycle of All India Tiger Estimation (AITE) in
New Delhi.
a. The Tiger
Estimation exercise is believed to be world’s largest wildlife survey effort
in terms of- coverage, quantum of camera trapping and intensity of
sampling.
b. In India All
India Tiger Estimation is conducts in every 4 years.
c. Important
Note : According to this estimation, the Tiger
population in India has increased from 2,226 in 2014 to 2,967 in
2018.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will feature
in an episode of 'Man vs Wild' along with the show's host Bear
Grylls.

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa won the trust
vote in the state Assembly today.
a. The BJP
leader was sworn-in as Chief Minister last week after the Congress-JD(S)
coalition government failed the floor test held on July 23.

India and Myanmar today signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) on Defence co-operation.
a. The MoU was
signed in New Delhi after the talks between Minister of State for Defence,
Shripad Yesso Naik and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services of Myanmar,
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

The State Bank of India (SBI) has revised
interest rate on Fixed Deposits (FDs) across tenors from 45
days to ten years from August 1, 2019.
a. On FDs below ₹2 crore for one year to less than two years, interest rates
reduced by 20 basis points to 6.80%.
b. A 6.60%
interest is applicable for FDs maturing in three years to less than five years.

Parliament has passed the Banning of Unregulated Deposit
Schemes Bill 2019 with the Rajya Sabha approving it today.
a. The bill
seeks to provide for a comprehensive mechanism to ban the unregulated deposit
schemes other than deposits taken in the ordinary course of businesses and to
protect the interest of depositors.
10. Renowned
Indian sand artist and Padma Awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik has
won People’s Choice Award at a prestigious sand sculpting
festival in United States (US).
a. He was among
top 15 sand artists selected from all over world to participate in 2019
Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival in
Boston.
11. Former
Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel took oath as
the new Governor of Uttar Pradesh today.
a. High Court
Chief Justice Govind Mathur administered her the oath at the
Raj Bhawan in Lucknow.
12. Phagu
Chauhan was sworn in as the new Governor of Bihar today.
a. He was
administered the oath of office by Patna High Court Chief Justice A P
Shahi at the Raj Bhawan in Patna.

Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre VK
Johri has been appointed as the new Director General (DG)
of Border Security Force (BSF), country’s largest border
guarding force.
14. Red Bull's
Dutch driver Max Verstappen won German Grand
Prix 2019.
15. Egan
Bernal (22) became the youngest Tour de France winner in
110 years after completing the last stage of the competition today.
a. He has also
became the 1st-ever Colombian to win the Tour de France title.
