(10th November) is World
Science Day for Peace and Development (WSDPD) / World Science Day.
a. This day is
annually observed on November 10 to raise awareness of the benefits of science
worldwide.
b. World Science
Day for Peace and Development 2019 Theme : "Open
Science, leaving no one behind".

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be on a
3 day visit to Netherlands from tomorrow.
a. During this
visit, he will hold comprehensive discussion on bilateral and multilateral
issues of mutual interest.
b. He will also
interact with members of the foreign affairs committee of the House of
Representatives of the Dutch Parliament and Dutch dignitaries across the
political spectrum.

Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is visiting
United Arab Emirates (UAE).
a. During this
visit, he will attend the inaugural Ministerial session of Abu Dhabi
International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference.
b. Accompanied
by officials and business delegation, the Minister is scheduled to meet his UAE
counterpart Minister of Energy and Industry, Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al
Mazrouei.
c. Both the
countries will discuss issues of bilateral hydrocarbon as well as steel sector
engagements.
d. He will also
explore the opportunities for steel exports to the middle east countries.

Germany yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the
Berlin Wall that separated the city into Communist East and Democratic
West for almost three decades.
a. After the
fall of the wall in 1989, East and West Germany reunified in 1990.

The 9th edition of Dhaka Lit Fest concluded
with book lovers enjoying its sessions despite the constant drizzle caused by
the cyclonic storm Bulbul.
a. More than
20,000 people visited the Lit fest which ended with a poetry recital by Tishani
Doshi.
b. Over the 3
day of the festival 200 speakers, performers and thinkers, took part in discussions
on diverse topics.

In Brazil, former President Lula da
Silva walked free from jail after spending a year and a half
behind bars for corruption.
a. The
74-year-old leftist icon embroiled in a massive corruption scandal which has
engulfed some of Brazil's most influential politicians and business
leaders.
b. Even though
he is now free, Lula will be barred by his criminal record from resuming his
political career.

In Mauritius, Prime Minister Pravind
Jugnauth claimed victory in the election today as official
preliminary results showing his alliance taking a comfortable lead over rivals
in the Indian Ocean nation.

Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad is being
celebrated with traditional fervour in various parts of the country today.
a. President Ram
Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have
greeted the people on the occasion.
9.
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has invited
the single largest party (BJP) to form the government.
a. He has given
BJP time till November 11 to prove majority.
b. Note : Yesterday,
BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis had resigned as Maharashtra Chief Minister amid
BJP's ongoing tensions with Shiv Sena over '50:50' formula and Chief
Ministerial post.
10. Sanskrit
Bharati Vishwa Sammelan, a 3-day mega event for discussing ideas, theories and research
findings in the ancient Sanskrit language, is currently underway in New
Delhi.
a. Thousands of
delegates and Sanskrit lovers from across the world are participating in this
first-of-its-kind global conference.
11. Union
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad
today said that the Government will set up One lakh digital
villages in the country in the coming years.
a. Around 800
such villages are already operational on pilot basis.
12. The Reserve
Bank of India (RBI) has directed banks not to charge savings
bank account customers for online transactions in the NEFT system with
effect from January 2020.
a. The central
bank had recently waived the charges it levied on banks for NEFT and RTGS
transactions.
b. The RBI said
it will also enable processing of e-mandates for transactions through UPI.
13. The Reserve
Bank has also increased the household income limits for borrowers of Non-Banking
Financial Companies (NBFCs) and Micro Finance Institutions
(MFIs) from 1 lakh to 1.25 lakh rupees.
a. This move is
aimed at strengthening credit to those at the bottom of the economic pyramid in
rural areas.
b. Similarly,
the limit has been increased from 1.6 lakh for urban or semi-urban areas to 2
lakh rupees.
14. India's
largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has lowered its
lending rates by 5 basis points across all tenors,.
a. It has also
sharply slashed the deposits pricing between 15 and 75 basis points.
b. This is the
7th consecutive cut in lending rates by the bank this fiscal.
c. Note : With this
reduction, the one year Marginal Cost Of Funds-Based Lending (MCLR),
to which most of its loan prices are linked, will come down to 8 per
cent.
15. The National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) today unveiled its 1st
all-electric experimental aircraft, "X-57 Maxwell", that's
being developed since 2015.
a. The aircraft,
having 14 electric motors, would be the agency's 1st crewed experimental plane
to be developed in two decades.
16. Chief Justice
of India Ranjan Gogoi inaugurated the Assamese version of the book Courts of
India in Guwahati today.
a. The book has
captures the historical developments which took place in the history of
nation's courts.
b. The various
chapters of the book narrates the historical events of the court.
17. 15 year
old Shafali Varma became the youngest Indian
cricketer to score a half-century after her stunning innings of 73
runs of 49 balls in the first T20 International against West Indies.
a. With this,
she broke the 30-year-old record of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar.
