IMPORTANT CURRENT AFFAIRS 8TH-9TH NOVEMBER 2015

  • Mahagathbandhan’s (Grand Alliance) has won over two-third majority in Bihar Assembly elections.
    • The newly-formed JD(U) - RJD - Congress alliance has secured secured 178 seats in the 243-member House.
    • BJP-led NDA has won 58 seats, others got seven seats.
    • This gave Chief Minister Nitish Kumar a third term in office.

  • 0n 8th november X-Ray Day / International Day of Radiology was observed .
    • This is an annual event promoting the role of medical imaging in modern healthcare.
    • German Physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered X-rays on this day in 1895.   
  • Indra-2015’, the 7th edition of India-Russia Joint Military Exercise has begun in Bikaner district of Rajasthan. 
    • Indian and Russian armies conduct this two-week joint military exercise with a focus on "counter terrorism operations in the backdrop of desert terrain under a United Nations Mandate.
  • Indian Railways has won 32nd Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament for the fIrst time by beating defending champions Indian Oil Corporation of Mumbai at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium.
  • Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Taiwanese counterpart Ma Ying-jeou held a landmark meeting in Singapore on 7 November 2015, which was the first ever meeting between top leaders of the two sides. The meeting focused on relations across the Taiwan Straits.
  •  In the study of 175 countries by anti-graft organisation Transparency International, India has been ranked 85. The Corruption Perceptions Index 2014 was released by Transparency International on 6 November 2015.
  •  According to the Index Denmark is the least corrupt country with a score of 92. Somalia and North Korea jointly have been rated as the most corrupt countries with scores of eight.
  • Vidarbha opener Wasim Jaffer 0n 8th november became the first cricketer in Ranji Trophy history to reach the milestone of 10,000 runs. This is the first time the five-digit mark has been breached in the 81-year history of India’s premier domestic cricket competition.
  • Indian boxer Vijender Singh wins 2nd professional bout beating England's Dean Gillen.
