- On June
13, 2016 International Albinism Awareness Day was observed.
- Theme
of the year 2016 : Celebrate Diversity, Promote Inclusiveness and Protect Rights of
People with Albinism
- President
Pranab Mukherjee reaches
Ghana capital Accra on the first leg of his 3-Nation
tour to Africa.
- Mukherjee
became the first
Indian President to visit Ghana.
- This
tour comes as a part of India’s ‘Outreach to Africa’ initiative.
- Note : This is the first leg of his tour of three African nations
which also includes first visits to Cote
D'Ivoire and Namibia.
- Norway has become the first
country in the world to prohibit deforestation.
- In this
regard, Norwegian Parliament had pledged to make government’s public
procurement policy deforestation-free.
- The
step was taken by Norwegian Government based on official recommendations of
Norwegian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Energy and Environment as part of
the Action Plan on Nature Diversity.
- Ghana and India have singed 3
agreements after
Bilateral talks between President Pranab Mukherjel and his Ghana counter part
John Mahama.
- First
agreement :
Exemptions on visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports.
- Second
agreement : MOU
between India and Ghana on the establishment of a joint commission.
- Note : The Joint Commission framework will periodically review
various aspects of the multi-dimensional relationship between the two
countries.
- Third
agreement :
Cooperation between both countries foreign ministries.
- Vasantrao
Naik Shetkari Swavalamban Mission (VNSSM), a Task Force on
Farmers, submitted its report to Maharashtra
Government.
- The
taskforce appointed to address agrarian issues has suggested a five-point
agenda to bring at least 80 percent of farmers into the institutional credit
net.
- This
task-force was headed by :

- The
Bombay High Court cleared the release of the most controversial movie "Udta Punjab" whose makers
were locked in a dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification.
- The Jammu and Kashmir government has banned all types of "private airborne
activity" within
one kilometre of any security installation in Jammu for 60 days.
- Further,
prior permission would be mandatory for such activities in other areas of the
district.
- This
follows an Indian Air Force alert that terrorists may be planning to use
"sub-conventional methods" like paragliding and parachutes.
- In the
light of the recent class XII Bihar board results scandal, the Bihar
Education Department has
launched ‘Operation Clean Up’, under which all the 228 B.Ed
colleges of the state will be probed.
- The
department will also inspect “10+2, degree colleges and even coaching
institutes” to ensure the quality of education.
- Indian
American author Akhil
Sharma On June
13, 2016 won the prestigious2016 International Dublin Literary Award for his semi-autobiographical novel “Family Life.”
- Family
Life is Sharma’s second novel and took him 13 years to write.
- The
novel traces the journey of a family that emigrates from New Delhi to New York,
where one brother is left severely brain-damaged after a tragedy strikes.
- India's Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation
for the month of May climbed to 5.76% from the 5.47% recorded in April, marking a 17-month high.
- Malaysia's
first Sharia-compliant airline Rayani
Air, owned by an ethnic Indian Hindu couple, was shut down On June
13, 2016 after failing to adhere to aviation rules.
- The
government is planning to make purity
stamping, or hallmarking, mandatory for all jewellery shops in India to protect consumers from getting duped on the quality of gold.
- Once
made mandatory, jewellers will be made accountable and jewellery shops will
have to sell hallmarked certified gold jewellery.

- The
markets regulator SEBI
(Securities and Exchange Board of India) has put
in place a stricter
KYC (Know Your Customer) norms and
disclosure regime for Participatory
Notes (P-Notes).
- Important
Points to Note :
- P-Notes
are offshore/overseas derivative instruments (ODIs) issued by registered
foreign institutional investors (FII) to overseas investors.
- They
provide easier and cost-effective route to foreign investors to invest in
Indian markets without directly registering as Foreign Portfolio Investors
(FPIs).
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has
notified the increase
in the limits of foreign portfolio investors in YES Bank from 60% to74% under
the portfolio investment
scheme.
- The
increase follows the approval granted by the Cabinet Committee of Economic
Affairs (CCEA) / Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) on May 25 besides
deregulation of FDI policy allowing fungibility across FDI / FPI limits.
- China has successfully launched a 23rd
BeiDou Navigation Satelliteto support its global navigation and
positioning network.
- The
satellite was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest
China’s Sichuan Province on board of Long March-3C carrier rocket.
- It is
the 23rd satellite in the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, which is being
developed as an alternative to GPS (Global Positioning System) of
US.
- It was
the 229th launch of the Long March carrier rocket.
- Veteran
theatre personality, playwright and doyen of Assam’s mobile theatre movement Achyut Lahkar (85)
passed away.
- Note : He was considered as the father of the Bhryamyman or Mobile
Theatre of Assam.
- India clinch ODI series against Zimbabwe with eight wickets win in the second ODI at Harare.
- The Indian 4x400m men's relay team set a new national record, clocking 3:02.17 secs, at the
International Sprint and Relay Teams Cup in Erzurum, Turkey.
- They
broke the previous record of 3:02.62 secs, which was set at the 1998 Bangkok
Asian Games.
- Note : The team is currently ranked 17th worldwide, with the world's
top 16 eligible to participate in the Olympics.
- The Badminton Association of India (BAI) announced a cash reward of ₹10 lakh for shuttler Saina Nehwal after
she won theAustralian Open Super Series in
Sydney yesterday.
- Saina
defeated Chinese shuttler Sun Yu to win her first title this year.
