IMPORTANT CURRENT AFFAIRS OF

1.
The much-awaited summit between
the United States and North Korea finally
took place in Singapore today.
a. US
President Donald Trump and North
Korean leader Kim Jong Un met at a resort island
of Sentosa along with their respective translators.
b. Kim and
Trump became the first leaders of their countries to ever come
face to face.
c. Trump
said the US relationship with North Korea will be different from the
past.
d. Both
leaders signed a“comprehensive” document at the end of their
historic summit, vowing to forge a new partnership and reverse decades of
American policy toward the rogue regime.
2.
India is going to host 1st
military exercise of the BIMSTEC Countries 2018.
a. The
exercise is scheduled to be held in Pune (Maharashtra) in
the second week of September.
b. Aim of
BIMSTEC 2018 : To promote strategic alignment among the member-states
and to share best practices in the area of counter-terrorism.
c. BIMSTEC : Bay
of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical
and Economic Cooperation
d. Note :
BIMSTEC was set up in 1997 and includes India, Bangladesh, Bhutan
Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The United States today
enforced 'Restoring Internet Freedom Order', replacing Obama-era
'net neutrality' rules, which had barred internet service providers from
charging more for certain content to grant equal access to the internet.

With 1,86,000 Indian students currently
studying in the United States, India is the 2nd
highest sender of foreign students to the US, next only to China.
5.
The Union Ministry of Culture has launched a
new scheme titled Seva Bhoj Yojana.
a. Aim of
Seva Bhoj Yojana : To provide financial assistance on
purchase of specific food items by Charitable Religious Institutions (CRIs) for
free distribution among people.
b. Note : Under
this scheme, Centre’s share of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) charged on
the raw food materials purchased by the religious institutions will be
refunded.

With the inspiration of ‘Beti Bacho-Beti
padao’ programme being initiated by the Prime Minister Narendra
Modi, East coast Railways, Waltair Division has launched ‘SUBHADRA
VAHINI’ programme for the security and protection of Women.
a. A 32
member- women team consisting of RPF police and TC women employees will monitor
the security of the women passengers in Trains and Railway stations in the
division.

The Union Ministry of Electronics &
Information Technology (MeITY) launched 5000 Wi-Fi Choupals in
villages in partnership with common service centres (CSCs).
a. Aim of
Wi-Fi Choupals : To transform rural Internet connectivity through
Bharat Net Project.
8.
US President Donald
Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have
signed an agreement to completely denuclearise South Korea in
exchange for security guarantees from the US.
9.
To facilitate infrastructure investments by
insurance and pension funds, the Union Government is going to launch Rs.500
crore Credit Enhancement Fund (CEF) in July 2018.
a. CEF
will provide credit enhancement for infrastructure projects which will help in
upgrading credit ratings of bonds issued by infrastructure companies and
facilitate investment from investors like pension and insurance funds.

On the backdrop of rising oil prices and
shortfall in FPI inflows to the country the Reserve Bank of India
(RBI) is expected to raise $30-35 billion via NRI
bonds to raise the rupee.
a. Note : FPI
has been slowed down amidst political volatility and with listing of Chinese
forms in global benchmark indices.

The RBI needs more powers to
oversee Public Sector Banks (PSBs), Governor Urjit
Patel told a parliamentary panel today amid mounting bad loans in
state-run lenders.
a. The RBI
governor, who appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Finance,
faced tough questions from lawmakers on bad loans, bank frauds, cash crunch and
other issues.
b. The
governor assured the members that steps were being taken to strengthen the
system.
12.
India extended financial aid of Rs.
99 million to Nepal for the construction of
2,700 Shallow Tube Well (STWs) irrigation systems in 12
districts of southern Terai region to boost agricultural
productivity.
a. The
assistance was extended as part of final payment for Nepal-Bharat Maitri
Irrigation Project.
b. With
this payment, India has released so far released total of 227.6 million Nepali
rupees to Nepal for implementing this project.

The government has set up a committee
to bring in transparency in the jobs data calculation.
a. The
committee will look into the limitations of the Quarterly Employment
Survey (QES) and submit its report.
b. The
government said the survey effectively captures the employment size of only
about 5% of the total workforce.
c. Head of

India)
14.
India will soon start
producing 1st indigenous Lithium Ion batteries.
a. A MOU
in this regard was recently signed between CSIR’s Central Electro Chemical
Research Institute (CECRI), Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu and RAASI Solar Power Pvt
Ltd.
b. Note : At
present India depends on countries like China, Japan and South
Korea for import of Lithium Ion batteries.

For the 1st time, Scientists of
Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad have discovered a distant planet
revolving around Sun-like star and named both the planet and the star as EPIC.
a. With
this discovery India joins handful of countries which have discovered planets
around stars.
16.
India’s young women’s doubles pair of Simran
Singhi and Ritika Thaker won the Mauritius
International Badminton tournament (Women's Doubles Category) which
concluded at Rose Hill in Mauritius today.
17.
India has lifted the Intercontinental
Cup football title.
a. In the
summit clash in Mumbai, India defeated Kenya 2-nil.
b. Both
the goals were netted by skipper Sunil Chhetri.
18.
American fighter Ronda Rousey will
become the 1st female MMA fighter to be inducted
into the Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Fame.
19.
Rafael Nadal claimed
an 11th French Open title in Men’s singles final in
Paris after defeating Austrian Dominic Thiem. Complete
