  1. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved an increase in the budget for implementation of grid connected solar rooftop systems under National Solar Mission from Rs 600 crore to Rs 5,000 crore by 2019-20. 
    • This will support Installation of 4,200 megawatt peak (MWp) solar rooftop systems in the country in the next five years.
    • Important Note :
    • A capital subsidy of 30% will be provided for general category states and union territories, and 70% for special category states including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and those in the Northeast.

  1. China on 27th December 2015 officially abandoned its controversial one child policy, allowing couples to have a second child amid deepening demographic crisis of shrinking workforce and ageing population in the world's second largest economy. 
    • Chinese lawmakers passed this historic decision allowing all couples to have two children from January 1, ending its over three and half decades old policy that prevented over 400 million births in the country.
  2. China on 27th December 2015 adopted its first counter-terrorism law that grants overarching powers to security agencies amid criticism from the U.S. over privacy and freedom of speech.

  1. The Philippines became the first Asian country to approve the sale of the world's first-ever dengue vaccine.
    • The vaccine Dengvaxia, manufactured by French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi, secured its first regulatory approval in Mexico a fortnight ago and is currently being reviewed by around 20 countries in Asia and Latin America.
    • It is hoped the drug could eventually help prevent millions of deaths from dengue, the world's fastest-growing mosquito-borne disease.

The call rates have been reduced both per minute and per second billing plan, and will be valid only for the first two months of a customer's joining BSNL. ·         Pfizer and Allergan combine in biggest drug merger ever
o    In one of the biggest corporate deals ever US drugs giant Pfizer Inc. has announced that it would buy Ireland based Allergan for 160 billion dollars making it the biggest pharmaceuticals merger deal in history of healthcare sector.
o    The merger, which still needs regulatory approval, would bring blockbuster drugs like Pfizer's Lyrica, Enbrel and Viagra and Allergan's Botox and Restasis under one corporate roof.
