1.   The United States and Russia have reached an agreement to hold the summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in a "third country".
a.   This comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin met US National Security Adviser John Bolton in Moscow. 
2.   Aiming to take the defence ties to a newer height, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj handed over handed over the second Dornier maritime reconnaissance aircraft to visiting President of Seychelles Danny Faure.

1. UAE to hold first-ever 'World Tolerance Summit'
The United Arab of Emirates (UAE) will host a two-day "World Tolerance Summit" in November.
  • The theme of the summit is"Prospering From Pluralism: Embracing Diversity through Innovation and Collaboration".
2. Sushma Swaraj Introduces Passport Seva App
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj launched a Passport Seva app for seamless application and issue of passports.

i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the third annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) at Mumbai's National Centre for the Performing Arts. The theme for this year's meeting is "Mobilising finance for infrastructure: innovation and collaboration". 
ii. The Prime Minister met business leaders and captains of industry, for a discussion on issues such as economic growth, infrastructure

1.  (25th June) is the Day of the Seafarer.
a.   Seafarer means "person who travels by sea"
b.   This day is observed as an expression of thanks to the seafarers for their contribution to the economy and civil society of the world.
c.   The observance of the day also acknowledges the risks and personal costs endured by seafarers while being in their jobs.
d.   Day of the Seafarer (DotS) Theme 2018 : "seafarers' wellbeing".
2.  Seychelles president Danny Faure is on a 6 day visit to India.
a.   This is his first bilateral visit to India.
b.   During this visit, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reviewed the wide-ranging cooperation between the two countries, including in the fields of defence and security.
c.   The visit comes just days after Mr Faure announced a joint project with New Delhi to develop a naval base at Assumption Island in his country would not move forward.

3. India and Cuba have agreed to enhance cooperation in biotechnology, renewable energy and traditional medicine as President Ram Nath Kovind held wide-ranging talks with his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel to further cement the strong bilateral ties.
a. Cuba also reiterated support for India's candidature for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council
   4.  India and Bangladesh have agreed to institute Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) as an annual exercise between navies of two neighbouring countries.
a.   The first edition of CORPAT was inaugurated today by Indian Navy’s Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba during his visit to Bangladesh.
b.   During the joint patrol, naval forces of both the countries shared information through naval communication and understanding.
   5.  The Gujarat government has launched a new solar power scheme for farmers titled Suryashakti Kisan Yojana (SKY).
a.   It is first such scheme in the country, where farmer will produce his power and sell surplus to State power utility.
b.   This scheme will cover as many as 12,400 farmers from 33 districts. 
c.   The project cost is around Rs 870 crore and it will generate 175 MW.
6.  Indian Parliament's Monsoon Session will be held from July 18 to August 10.
a.   The last parliamentary session held in April was the least productive since 2000, with a total of nearly 250 working hours getting wasted. 
b.   While only five bills were passed in the Lok Sabha, one was cleared in the Rajya Sabha.
    7.  Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje was conferred the ‘Chief Minister of the Year 2018’ award for her remarkable work in e-governance
a.   The award was given at the 52nd Skoch Summit held in New Delhi.
8.  Late Bollywood Actress Sridevi has been honoured with the best actress award posthumously for her movie 'Mom' while Irrfan Khan won best actor for the movie 'Hindi Medium' at this year's International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2018 in Bangkok.

   10.              Technology giant Google is planning to launch its e-commerce platform in the Indian market later this year. 
a.   Google's Vice President of Product Management Caesar Sengupta is likely to head the e-commerce unit for the company in India. 
11. In a move aimed at boosting the sales of domestic products amid US sanctions, Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has banned the import of 1,400 items. 
12. China led multilateral development bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved investment of $200 million in India’s National Investment & Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) to give greater impetus to mega infrastructure projects.
a.   AIIB so far approved $4.4 billion investments in 25 projects.
b.    Of these investments, $1.2 billion have been approved for six infrastructure projects in India, making it largest recipient of funds from the multilateral agency.
  13.              Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved setting up of committee to lay down standards for metro rail systems in India.
a.   The committee will recommend standardisation norms for various components of Metro rail systems that are currently imported.

15. Former world number one women's tennis player Amélie Mauresmo has been appointed as the next captain of France's men's Davis Cup team
a.   Amélie will replace Yannick Noah next season to become the first woman to captain France's Davis Cup team and overall sixth woman to captain in the tournament history. 
16. Malaysia’s government has appointed Nor Shamsiah Mohd as the next governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (Malaysia’s central bank).
a.   The former central bank official who investigated the scandal-plagued state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) was deputy governor at Bank Negara for six years until she left in November 2016.
    17.              Indian swimmer Sandeep Sejwal clinched the Gold medal in men’s 50 meter breaststroke event with a timing of 27:59 seconds at the Singapore National Swimming Championships in Singapore.
a.   Virdhawal Khade grabbed Silver medal in the 50 meter freestyle event with a timing of 22.68 seconds.

1.  Saudi Arabia became the last country in the world to allow women to drive after it lifted the ban on female motorists today.
a.   Note : The Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had announced the lifting of the ban last year.
2.  Prince William will next week become the first member of Britain’s royal family ever to pay an official visit to both Israel and the Palestinian territories.
a.   William’s visit comes at a particularly sensitive time after US President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as capital of Israel and moved Washington’s embassy there, sparking Arab outrage and deadly clashes on Israel’s border with Gaza.
   3.  Haryana has made use of LED bulbs and tubelights mandatory in all government offices by August 15. 
a.   All halogen, sodium bulbs, and tubelights will be replaced with energy-efficient LED bulbs and tubelights, as per CM Manohar Lal Khattar's directions. 
4.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Mohanpura irrigation project in Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district. 
a.   The 3,866 crore project includes a dam and a canal system which will provide drinking water to over 400 villages. 
5.  According to a recent survey by the union housing and urban affairs ministry, 19 of the 25 dirtiest cities in India are in West Bengal
a.   The 19 cities include Darjeeling, Siliguri, North Barrackpore and Bankura
6.  Maharashtra has become the 18th state to enforce a complete ban on the sale, use and manufacture of plastic bags. 
a.   Other states which have imposed a complete ban include Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, among others. 
7.  Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today made biometric attendance compulsory in all state government offices with immediate effect. 
a.   The move is aimed at ensuring punctuality in all the offices. 
   8.  Mongolia has launched construction of its 1st strategically important oil refineryfunded by India in southern Dornogovi province. 
a.   This refinery was jointly launched by by Mongolian Prime Minister Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and Indian Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh.
b.   The refinery will be capable of processing 1.5 million tonnes of crude oil per year. 
c.   The cost of the refinery is estimated at $1.35 billion, and it will include a pipeline and its own power plant. 
d.   Its financing is part of $1 billion soft credit line agreement between Mongolia and Export-Import Bank of India, made during 2015 official visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
9.  The government is planning to sell a strategic stake in IDBI Bank to Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India
a.   The proposal is part of a plan to professionalise the state-owned lender using the Axis Bank model, which has been mooted for a long time.
10. Private sector lender Karnataka Bank is targeting to disburse about Rs 9,000 crore agriculture loan this fiscal, seeing potential opportunities in the sector. 
a.   The bank has announced that it is also in line with government’s vision to double farm sector income by 2022.

b.   It has played an active and decisive role in ensuring peace and stability in violence hit Jonglei State of South Sudan.
12. Bollywood Singer Arijit Singh won the Best Playback Singer (Male) award for 'Hawaayein' from 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' and Meghna Mishra won Best Playback Singer (Female) award for 'Main Kaun Hoon' from 'Secret Superstar' at the 2018 IIFA Awards
a.   Pritam won Best Background Score award for 'Jagga Jasoos'. 
  13.              South Korea's former prime minister Kim Jong-pil (92) who also founded the country's once-infamous spy agency, died today.
   14.              China's artificial intelligence major Baidu has tested its two driverless cars for the first time in Tianjin City, China.
a.   The trial run would enable developers to collect data on the cars' performance in positioning, mapping, and self-control.
  15.              India's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) today appointed Arijit Basu as it's new Managing Director.
a.   He will fill the spot left vacant following the elevation of Rajnish Kumar as the Chairman. Basu.
b.   As per the SBI Act, the bank can have four managing directors.
