  • ISRO launches 37th Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle from Sriharikota
    • The Indian Space Research Organisation has launched its 37th Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, carrying 8 satellites from its Sriharikota base.
    • Out Of the eight satellites, three each are from India and Algeria, and the remaining are from Canada and the United States.
  • Anurag Srivastava appoints Ambassador of India to the Republic of Djibouti
    • Shri Anurag Srivastava, presently Ambassador of India to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, has been concurrently accredited as the Ambassador of India to the Republic of Djibouti, with residence in Addis Ababa.

  • Madhya Pradesh passes GST Amendment Bill 
    • The Madhya Pradesh Assembly has passed the Goods and Service Tax (GST) Constitution Amendment Bill. MP became the seventh state in the country to ratify the historic tax amendment bill. 
    • Before Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have already passed the bill in their respective assemblies. 
  • Sania Mirza-Barbora Strycova crowned women’s doubles champions at Pan Pacific Open
    • India’s Sania Mirza along with her partner Barbora Strycova from Czech Republic produced a straight sets win over China’s Chen Liang and Zhaoxuan Yang  in the final to win the women’s doubles titles at Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo on 24 September 2016.

    • The Cabinet has approved a revised Double Tax Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) between India and Cyprus that provides for source-based taxation of capital gains on transfer of shares instead of one based on residence.
  • Committees for the birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay
    • The PM, Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the constitution of two committees for the commemoration of the birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.
    • The Prime Minister will chair a 149 member National Committee, and the Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, will chair a 23 member Executive Committee.

  • China and Russia have started naval drills in the disputed South China Sea On September 12, 2016. 
    • China claimed that the "routine" drills, which are expected to last eight days, are only aimed at strengthening cooperation. 
    • This comes amid tensions in the contested waters after a UN court ruled that China does not have "historic rights" over the region. 
  • The government On September 12, 2016 approved the Human Resource Development Ministry's proposal to set up a Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) that will pro vide funds for research-oriented infrastructure in premier institutions like IITs and IIMs.

    • This comes after bombings in Thai tourist towns in August allegedly by Muslim separatists, according to police.

  • The Electric Daisy Carnival, one of the biggest electronic music festivals in the world, will be held in India for the first time this November. 
    • Slated to be held on November 12 and 13 in Delhi, it will feature performances by Indian and international DJs. 
    • Note : It has previously been held in various US cities, Japan, Brazil and the UK.

  • The 2016 Group of Twenty (G20) Summit was held in Hangzhou, China from 4th to 5th September 2016 .
    • It was the 11th meeting of the G20. 
    • It was the first ever G20 summit to be hosted in China and the second Asian country after 2010 G20 Seoul summit was hosted in South Korea. 
    • Aim : To discuss efforts to reform global economic governance. 
    • Theme of the year : “Toward an Innovative, Invigorated, Interconnected and Inclusive World Economy”.  
    • During this Summit, the leaders, including those from India, China, and the US, have pledged to roll back protectionist measures on trade and investment by 2018-end and ensure a transparent multilateral trading system.

    • The Postal Department has released a commemorative stamp to honour the Mother Teresa’s canonization in Mumbai. 
    • Teresa, who worked for the destitute in Kolkata and became a global icon of Christian charity, was declared a saint by Pope Francis at the Vatican.

  • India, Vietnam Sign 12 Agreements to Boost Bilateral ties
    • India and Vietnam have signed 12 agreements for cooperation in areas, including defence and IT, to boost bilateral ties. 
    • PM Modi said New Delhi will provide $500 million credit line for Vietnam for defence cooperation. India also offered a grant of $5 million to set up a software park in Vietnam. 
    • This is the first bilateral prime ministerial visit from India to Vietnam in 15 years.

  • Goa Assembly ratifies GST Bill
    • The Goa Legislative Assembly today unanimously passed a resolution ratifying the amendments to the Constitution to pave way for the presidential assent to the Goods and Services (GST) Bill, 2016.
    • Goa is the 15th State Assembly to ratify the Bill. With this, 50% of States have passed the Bill paving way for the presidential assent. 
  • NPCI launches Bharat Bill Payment System pilot project
    • National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched a pilot project for Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) with 26 Bharat Bill Payment Operating Units (BBPOUs).
