  • India has been ranked 105th out of 130 countries on the World Economic Forum's Human Capital Index.
    • This Index measures countries’ ability to nurture, develop and deploy talent for economic growth. 
    • Finland topped the index while other countries like China (71) and Bangladesh (104) were ranked above India.
  • The United States, Canada, and Mexico will this week reportedly pledge that they will produce 50% of their power from hydropower, wind, solar and nuclear plants by 2025
    • Leaders of the three countries will commit to this goal during a summit between them this week.

    • With this, India has became the 35th member of MTCR.

  • Israel and Turkey announced a deal to end a six-year-long diplomatic standoff, which began when nine Turkish activists were shot dead by the Israeli Navy in 2010.

    • Aim : Jointly preserving and safeguarding regional peace, security and stability and also establishing a democratic, fair and rational new international political and economic order.
    • SCO was established in Shanghai by the leaders 6 countries viz. China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan in the year 2001.

    • India will sign a memorandum of obligation in Tashkent On June 24, 2016 to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

1. India, Taiwan MoU/Agreements on bilateral relations approved
a) Union cabinet has recently approved two major pacts with Taiwan in agricultural and aviation sector. An Air services agreement was signed between India-Taipei Association in Taipei (India's representative office in Taiwan) and Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (Taiwan's representative office in India). This agreement is considered to bring greater trade, investment, tourism and cultural exchanges between the two parties.
b) A MoU between Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India and India Taipei Association in Taipei also recieved nod from Union Cabinet, Taiwan for cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied Sector.

1. President reaches Windhoek on the last leg of his 3-nation tour to Africa
i. President Pranab Mukherjee has reached Windhoek, the capital of Namibia on the last leg of his three-nation tour to Africa. 
ii. He was received on his arrival at Hosea Kotako international airport by the deputy Prime Minister Ms. Nandi Ndaitwah Netumbo. 
iii. The visit, apart from consolidating bilateral interaction, will carry forward the momentum generated in India-Africa ties after third IndoAfrica forum summit held last year in Delhi. One issue that is likely to dominate the bilateral talks is the supply of Uranium. Both the countries entered into an agreement on nuclear energy way back in 2009 when the then Namibian President visited India.

1) Insurance regulator IRDA on 8 June 2016 proposed norms for selling and servicing of insurance policies through e-commerce platform with a view to increase insurance penetration in the country in a cost-effective manner. This would be done through own network of insurance companies. The Insurance Self-Network Platform (ISNP) has been the name given to this network as described in IRDA’s proposals.
i). According to the draft proposals of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDA), the Insurance Self-Network Platform (ISNP) will undertake Insurance e-commerce activities in India such as selling and servicing of insurance products.

1. Piyush Goyal Launches ‘Surya Mitra’ Mobile App

i. Minister for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal has launched ‘Surya Mitra’ mobile app at the national workshop on rooftop solar power in New Delhi. 
ii. The GPS-based mobile app is developed by National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) which is an autonomous institution of Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE).
iii. This app is a high-end technology platform which can handle thousands of calls simultaneously and can efficiently monitor all visits of Suryamitra’s.

1) The OBC quota benefit for the post of Professor and Associate Professor has been scrapped by the University Grants Commission (UGC), as announced on 7 June 2016

i). The Other Backward Caste (OBC) quota benefit for the Professor and Associate Professor posts has been scrapped by the University Grants Commission (UGC). According to the new rule formed by the commission, as announced on 7 June 2016, 27% OBC reservation in teaching positions will be applicable for the level of Assistant Professor only.
ii). The commission has issued notices to all the central universities to implement the new policies.

1. Suresh Prabhu launches Tiger Express train on the World Environment Day(5 JUNE)
i. Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu has flagged off the inaugural run of the Tiger Trail Circuit Train from Delhi Safdarjung Station. Shri Suresh Prabhu who was on tour to Mumbai, flagged off this train through video conferencing between Mumbai and Delhi.
ii. The launch of this Tiger Express on World Environment Day is to highlight the significance of environment in our lives. 
iii. This tourist train will be operated by Indian Railway PSU namely Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
