(2nd July) is World Sports Jounalists
Day.
a. This
day was established by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) in
1994 to mark the 70th Anniversary of it's foundation.

Nigeria overtook
India as the Country with the largest number of extreme poor in
early 2018, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo could
soon take over the number 2 spot.
a. This is
revealed by a study titled ‘The start of a new poverty narrative’, published by
the US-based think tank, Brookings.

From the upcoming Monsoon Session, Lok
Sabha MPs will be allowed to ask a maximum of five
questions in the house per day.
a. The MPs
were earlier permitted to ask 10 questions, due to which the number of notices
for questions exceeded 230 per day.

Interpol today
issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN) against fugitive
Indian diamantaire Nirav Modi.
a. This
Red Corner Notice will enable Modi's arrest in any country for extradition to
India.

Jharkhand Chief
Minister Raghubar Das today
announced that the first 'Khadi mall' of India will
be opened in the state soon.

The growth rate of India's Foreign Direct Investment
(FDI) inflows recorded a five-year low of 3% to $44.85
billion in 2017-18.
a. The
sectors that received maximum foreign inflows include services ($6.7
billion), computer software and hardware ($6.15 billion),
and telecommunications ($6.21 billion).
b. Note : Mauritius emerged
as the largest source of FDI in India with $15.94 billion in 2017-18.

The Income Tax Department has launched
instant Aadhaar-based e-PAN allotment service for
individuals seeking PAN (Permanent Account Number) service for the first time.
a. The
e-PAN will be allotted on basis of one-time password (OTP) sent on mobile
number linked to Aadhaar number of a person.
b. This
facility is free of cost and is available for a limited period on first-come,
first-served basis for valid Aadhaar holders.
c. The
process can be done at the official portal of the department: https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador has
been elected as Mexico's new President with
over 53% of the vote.
a. He will
replace current Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on 1st
December.

Banking professional Arijit
Basu has taken over as a new Managing Director of State
Bank of India (SBI).
a. Basu
will handle the areas of Commercial Credit and IT and also
additional charge of Stressed Assets Resolution Group.
b. With
his appointment, announced by the Centre last week, the SBI now has four MDs.

City has elected local politician and scientistClaudia Sheinbaum,
as it's woman mayor.

The Democratic National Committee
(DNC) of United States has appointed Indian American Seema
Nanda as its new CEO.
a. With
this, Seema Nanda has become the first Indian American to be appointed as
operational head of a major American political party.

The United India Insurance
Company appointed K B Vijay Srinivas as
its Director and General Manager with effect from July 1.

The Union Government has constituted 13-member
Committee for Sub-National Accounts to upgrade the norms for computation
of economic data at states and districts level in backdrop of plans to revise
the base year for National Accounts or Gross Domestic Production (GDP)
calculation.
a. The
committee will review concepts, definitions, classifications, data conventions,
data sources and data requirements for preparation of State Domestic Product
(SDP) and District Domestic Product (DDP) and to lay down revised
guidelines.
b. It will
also suggest measures for improving SDP and DDP in the country taking into
consideration availability of data and requirements of Centre and
States/UTs.

Dravid has become the 5th Indian cricketer to be inducted into the
ICC Hall of Fame.
a. The
45-year-old scored 24,208 runs in 509 international matches in his nearly
16-year-long playing career.

as 87 cricketers are a part of ICC Hall of Fame.
