US President Donald
Trump signed an executive order enabling sanctions on foreign
countries or people who try to interfere in the US political process.
a. The
order has been criticised by both his party lawmakers and Democratic lawmakers
as too little, too late.

Stating that India meets all
the qualifications to be in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), the
United States' diplomat Alice Wells said, "India hasn't been able to
secure membership as a result of opposition from China."
a. "We
have deemed that we're not going to limit our own cooperation with India based
on a Chinese veto," she added.

Ganesh Chaturthi, the
birthday of the elephant headed God of Wisdom and remover of
obstacles, is being celebrated with religious fervour and the usual enthusiasm
all over India today.

The Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi
approved Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) to
protect income of farmers growing pulses, oilseeds and copra.
a. It will
be a mix of sub-schemes involving direct procurement from farmers, involvement
of private players for procurement on a pilot basis, and paying farmers the
difference between the MSP and the selling price.

The government has banned manufacturing, sale
or distribution of 328 Fixed Dose Combination (FDC) drugs including Saridon with
immediate effect citing safety concerns.
a. The
Health Ministry said there was no therapeutic justification for the ingredients
in these drugs and these combinations may be risky for patients.
b. Note : FDC
drugs are two or more medicines contained in a single dosage form.

The Andhra Pradesh government
today launched an app titled e-Rythu, to digitise
agricultural marketplaces and payments.
a. This
app will help farmers buy, sell and receive payments for their products through
phones in an easy and secure way.
b. The
app, developed by Mastercard Labs for Financial Inclusion in Nairobi, Kenya,
has been customised for India through its team in Pune.

The Retail inflation for the
month of August dropped to a 10-month-low of 3.69%, government data
showed today.
a. In
July, inflation eased to a nine-month low of 4.17%.
b. It is
for the first time in ten months that the retail inflation met the Reserve Bank
of India's medium-term target of 4%.

China successfully launched a
new marine satellite called HY-1C aboard a Long March-2C
rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in north China’s Shanxi Province.
a. Objectives :
Oetter monitor China's maritime waters and study the impact of climate change.

The Executive Committee of the Society
of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex body of the Indian
automotive industry, elected Rajan Wadhera as its
new President.
a. He is
also the President – Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra.

Watergate reporter Bob Woodward's
new book titled 'Fear: Trump in the White House' is recently in news due
to it's controversial claim saying that the US President Donald Trump mocked Egypt's
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Indian banking and financial services
company HDFC Bank retained its top spot in the Brand
India Top 50 for the fifth year in a row.
a. Life
Insurance Corporation (LIC) stood at the second spot
due to the key role played by its pension plan business, followed by Tata
Consultancy Services (TCS).

Noted Odia poet Satrughna Pandav is
going to be honoured with the prestigious ‘Sarala Puraskar’ for
his poetry collection ‘Misra Dhrupad’.
a. Note : The
‘Sarala Puraskar’, instituted by eminent Odia industrialist late Dr Bansidhar
Panda and late Ila Panda in 1979 and awarded by the Indian Metals Public
Charitable Trust(IMPaCT) will be presented to Pandav.
13.
Former Indian hockey team captain Sardar
Singh announced his retirement from international hockey.
a. He
represented India in over 350 international matches over the
course of his 12-year-long career.
b. He also
captained the national team from 2008 to 2016.
