IMPORTANT CURRENT AFFAIRS OF SEPTEMBER 17th ,

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu left
for Belgrade for the first phase of his 7- day tour to
three central European countries, Serbia, Malta and Romania.
a. He is
accompanied by Minister of State for (Finance) Mr. Shiv Pratap Shukla, 3
MPs from Rajya Sabha and one from Lok Sabha along
with a business delegation headed by C.I.I.
b. In Serbia,
he held a meeting with the President of Serbia (Aleksandar Vučić).
i) He also
met Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and
held bilateral talks.
ii) Various MoUs
will be signed between the two countries.
iii) He will also
address a special session of National Assembly of Serbia.

In Malta, he is scheduled to interact with the heads
of states of all the three countries and witness the signing of MoUs.
a. The Vice
President's visit is expected to strengthen India’s bilateral relations with
these three countries.
b. The visit
will help the countries to exchange expertise and share knowledge in the fields
of economy, environment, trade and culture.

Municipal elections were held in Syria today
for the first time since the civil war broke out in the country in 2011.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully
launched its PSLV-C42 rocket carrying two British
Earth observation satellites from Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota.
a. The two
satellites, NovaSAR and S1-4, are intended to
improve UK's disaster management capabilities.
b. Note : This marks
the 44th flight of the PSLV and the third launch by ISRO this year.

Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today
announced a ₹2 cut in the cess
of both petrol and diesel in the state.
a. Petrol was
priced at ₹84.59/litre in
Bengaluru on Sunday, while diesel was being sold at ₹76.10/litre.
b. Important
Note : Karnataka is the 4th state after Rajasthan, West
Bengal and Andhra Pradesh to have reduced state taxes
on petrol and diesel.

The iconic TIME magazine is being sold by
Meredith Corporation (present owner) to Salesforce.com's
Co-founder Marc Benioff and his wife Lynne
Benioff for $190 million (₹1,378
crore).

Veteran freedom fighter and former Odisha minister Dolagobinda
Pradhan (93) passed away.
a. Pradhan had
joined the Quit India movement and was also jailed during the freedom
movement.
b. He was
elected to the state Assembly twice from Cuttack Sadar constituency and served
as a minister from 1989 to 1990.

Veteran actor-director and a former army officer Captain
Raju (68) passed away.
a. The actor has
starred in around 500 Malayalam films and has also been a part of numerous
projects in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi as well.
9.
Team India captain Virat Kohli and
weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who bagged gold medal at the
Commonwealth Games 2018, have been recommended for this year's Rajiv
Gandhi Khel Ratna Award 2018, the country's highest sporting honour.
a. If approved
by Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Kohli will become
the 3rd cricketer to get the award after Sachin Tendulkar (1997-98) and MS
Dhoni (2007).
10. Delhi's Tarak
Sinha, coach of wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant who
made his Test debut last month, has been recommended for the Dronacharya
Award.
11.
Moutaz Mousa Abdallah has been sworn in as the new Prime Minister
of Sudan.
a. Mousa
Abdallah is also holding the Finance portfolio in a bid to
revive the country's ailing economy.
12. Tajinder
Mukherjee has been appointed as the new Chairman and
Managing Director of National Insurance Company Limited (NICL).
a. Prior to her
joining the NIC, she was the General Manager and Chief Underwriting Officer of
New India Assurance.
b. She holds a
Bachelor‘s Degree in Commerce from the University of Delhi and is a Fellow in
Insurance of the Insurance Institute of India.
