1.
President of Argentina Mauricio Macri arrived in
New Delhi today on a 3-day official visit to India.
a. During this
visit, he will hold delegation level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
i) The two sides
will review progress in bilateral ties and explore new avenues of
cooperation.
ii) Several
agreements will be signed after the talks.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has met
her Bulgarian counterpart Ekaterina Zaharieva in
the capital Sofia.
a. The two
leaders discussed a range of bilateral issues related to the economy,
agriculture, health, tourism and culture.
b. Important
Points to Note :
i.
Mrs. Swaraj is on a two-day visit to Bulgaria.
ii.
This is the 1st ever visit by an Indian External Affairs
Minister to the Balkan nation.

Schools in France are set to replace
the words 'Mother' and 'Father' with 'Parent 1' and 'Parent
2' on the administrative forms under an amendment to a law passed
earlier this week.
4.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu today
announced ₹9,000 each to
farmers with less than 5-acre land, under the Annadata Sukhibhava
scheme 2019-20.
a. This is apart
from the ₹6,000
assistance announced by the Centre for farmers holding less than 5-acre
land.
b. Farmers with
more than 5-acre of land will be given ₹10,000 each.

The Director of National AIDS Research Institute
(NARI), Dr Samiran Panda today announced that the
Indian Council of Medical Research has proposed to rename the institute.
a. HIV infection
has come down majorly, hence it is better to use the institute and research
team in other fields as well, he added.
b. This comes
nearly three decades after the institute was established.

India and Sweden signed a security protection
agreement that will enable the two countries to share classified
information with each other.

Swiss actor Bruno Ganz (77), best known
for his portrayal of Hitler in the 2004 Oscar-nominated film 'Downfall', has
passed awa.
a. Ganz featured
in the 2008 film 'The Reader' as well as in 'The Manchurian Candidate',
which released in 2004.

India’s 1st District cooling system will come up in Amravati (capital
city of the Andhra Pradesh).
a. What is this
District cooling system ?
i) District
cooling systems produce chilled water, steam or hot water at a central plant
and then pipe that energy out (either underground or over rooftops) to
buildings for air conditioning, space heating and water heating. As a result,
these buildings don’t require their own chillers, air conditioners, boilers or
furnaces.
ii) District
cooling uses only 50% of primary energy consumption for cooling urban building
compared to other cooling systems.
iii) This process
also reduces carbon emissions.
9.
Flight Lieutenant Hina Jaiswal became
the 1st woman flight engineer of IAF (Indian Air Force) which
was till now an exclusive man’s club.
a. She will
serve at IAF’s operational helicopter units and serve in demanding and
stressful conditions from the icy heights of the Siachen glacier to the seas of
the Andamans.
10.Winners of
Swachhata Excellence awards 2019
a. AMRUT cities
and Municipal Corporations of Raigarh, Ambikapur and Kumbakonam have
bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
b. Nagar Palika
Parishad Jashpur Nagar, Malappuram Municipality, and Nagar
Palika Parishad Surajpur have claimed the prizes in the category
of Statutory Towns.
c. For Million
Plus Cities, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has
been awarded with 1st prize.
d. For
Aspirational Districts, Chas Municipal Corporation has been
awarded with a consolation prize.
11.In tennis,
Belgium's Elise Mertens has claimed the biggest title
of her career by beating top seed Simona Halep to win the Qatar Open.
a. Note : This is
world number 21 Mertens' 1st-ever WTA Premier-level crown, and the 5th title of
her career overall.
12.Netherlands’ Eva
de Goede and Arthur van Doren of Belgium
were named the International Hockey Federation’s Players of the Year for 2018.
