Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit
to Sri Lanka.
a. With this, he
became 1st foreign leader to visit the country after the blasts that killed
over 250 people.
2.
US President Donald Trump has
indefinitely suspended planned tariffs against Mexico after it
agreed to curb immigration through its border to the US.
a. Note : Trump had
announced to impose 5% tariffs on all Mexican goods, threatening to increase
them up to 25%.

India and Maldives have reaffirmed their stand
against terrorism in all its forms.
a. Both
countries also agreed to further enhance close cooperation and decided to
intensify economic and cultural relations between their citizens.

To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi,
the Indian Embassy in Saudi today organized ‘Gandhi
Cycle Rally for Peace’ in association with the Diplomatic Quarter
Authority and Saudi Cycling Federation.
a. The rally was
flagged off by Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, Ambassador of
India to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
b. The Saudi
dignitaries, diplomats, members of Indian diaspora and Saudi nationals attended
the rally.

French Deputy Foreign Minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne is on a visit
to India.
a. During this
visit he met Minister of State for External Affairs V.
Muraleedharan and held discussions on further deepening of the
Indo-French strategic partnership.
b. Both the
leaders agreed to contribute to a more stable and sustainable world governance.

The Centre will hold a meeting with Water Resources
Ministers of different states tomorrow on the issue of water
conservation and drinking water.
a. Jal Shakti
Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will chair
the meeting in New Delhi where he will discuss the issue of water crisis
and seek states co-operation to overcome it.
b. The meeting
has been called in the backdrop of reported alarming situation of the water
levels in reservoirs across the country.

The Mumbai metro completed 5 years of
operation.
a. During the
last five years of operation, Metro has achieved running the service without a
single case of accident or any fatality.
b. The metro
could maintain 99.9 percent punctuality and completed 6.17 lakh trips
transporting 54 Crore commuters.

With a view to making the Budget-making exercise more
participative and inclusive, the Government has sought inputs from citizens on
the Union Budget 2019-20.
a. The comments
have been sought on government's portal - mygov.in by
20th of this month.
b. Note : New Finance
Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the
budget on 5th of July 2019.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed
the 2-day meeting of the G-20 Finance Ministers and central bank
Governors at Fukuoka in Japan yesterday.
a. During this
meet, India has called upon the G-20 countries to
urgently fix the issue of taxing profits made by digital economy companies in
countries where they do not have significant physical presence.
10. Former
Puducherry Chief Minister and DMK leader R V Janakiraman (79)
passed away.
a. Janakiraman
became the Chief Minister in 1996 and represented the Nellithope Assembly
constituency for five consecutive times.
11. Veteran actor
and playwright Girish Karnad (81) passed away.
a. A Jnanpith
Award winner, Karnad was also a recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma
Bhushan.
b. He made his
acting and screenplay debut in 1970 with the Kannada film 'Samskara'.
12. Tamil
screenwriter, comedian, and playwright, Crazy Mohan (66)
passed away.
a. The first
feature film he worked on was K Balachander's 'Poikkal Kudhirai' for
which he wrote the dialogues.
13. Veteran
journalist and chief of news agency ANI Tamil Nadu, E Gopinath (88)
passed away.
a. Gopinath covered
Independent India's first general elections for Press Trust of India
(PTI) and was active till the recently concluded 17th general elections.
b. He was
the 1st Indian journalist to interview Argentine
revolutionary Che Guevara and Cuban leader Fidel
Castro.
14. Kassym-Jormart
Tokayev has won a resounding victory to become Kazakhstan's
2nd President.
a. He is going
to replace Nursultan Nazarbayev, who resigned in March after 3
decades in power.
15. Cabinet
Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha has been given further 3
months extension.
a. The
appointments committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
has approved the extension beyond 12th of this month until further orders.
16. India defeated Australia by
36 runs at The Oval in London to register their second straight victory
in the 2019 World Cup and end Australia's 10-ODI
winning streak.
a. With this,
India became the third team after England and West Indies to register at least
50 victories against Australia in ODI cricket.
b. The match
witnessed Shikhar Dhawan smash his 17th ODI hundred.
17. 37-year-old
all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who was named player of the
tournament in India's 2011 World Cup triumph, has retired from
International Cricket.
a. He had made
his international debut as an 18-year-old in an ODI in 2000.
b. He last
played an international match in 2017, scored 11,778 runs and took 148 wickets
across three formats in international cricket.
18. Mercedes' Lewis
Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix after
Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel crossed the finish line first but was given a
five-second penalty
19. Portugal defeated the
Netherlands o claim the maiden UEFA Nations League title.
20. World number
two Rafael Nadal defeated world number four Dominic
Thiem in the men's singles final to clinch his record-extending 12th French
Open title in 15 years.
a. The
33-year-old became the 1st player to win 12 Singles titles at the same Grand
Slam and has now won 18 majors overall.
b. Nadal is now
just two titles behind Roger Federer's all-time record of 20 majors
and is three ahead of world number one Novak Djokovic.
