(30th June 2019) is 2nd International Day of
Parliamentarism.
a. This day is
being observed to highlight the role of parliaments worldwide as indispensable
cornerstones of democracy.
b. This date was
chosen by the United Nations General Assembly in a resolution adopted on 22nd
May 2018 as it coincides with the day in 1889, close to 130 years ago, that the
Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) — the global umbrella organization of
parliaments — was founded.

US President Donald Trump today
met North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at
the border separating North and South Korea.
a. This is the
3rd meeting between the two leaders.
b. During this
meet, both leaders have agreed to resume nuclear talks between the two nations,
which were stalled following the Vietnam summit between them.
c. Note : With this,
Donald Trump has become 1st-ever sitting US President to step foot into North
Korea.

Trump also held a lengthy meeting with Chinese
President Xi Jinping.
a. During this
meet, both leaders have agreed to re-launch the stalled negotiations to end the
trade war.
4.
Indian Naval Ship Tarkash reached Alexandria today
on a 3-day visit to Egypt, as a part of Western Fleet Overseas
Deployment programme.
a. During the
visit of Tarkash, professional interactions are planned with the Egyptian Navy
towards further enhancing co-operation between the two forces.
b. The current
visit seeks to underscore India's peaceful presence and solidarity with
friendly countries and, in particular, to strengthen the existing bonds of friendship
between India and Egypt.
c. Note : Tarkash is
a state of the art warship of the Indian Navy equipped with a versatile range
of weapons and sensors capable of addressing threats in all three dimensions.

An analysis by the Swiss National Bank has
ranked India at 74th position in terms
of Money parked by individuals and enterprises in Swiss banks,
about 0.07% of funds by all foreign clients of Switzerland-based banks in
2018.
a. The UK topped
the list with over 26% of such funds.
b. Top 5

iv) France
v) Hong Kong

To mark 2 years of Goods and Services Tax (GST) implementation,
the Finance Ministry is going to unveil a new return filing
mechanism tomorrow.
a. The ministry
said it will introduce the new return system on a trial basis from July 1 and
on mandatory basis from October 1.
b. Rationalisation
of cash ledger system and a single refund-disbursing mechanism are also likely
to be implemented.

The 13th Annual Conference of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
was recently held.
a. The theme of
the conference is 'Statistics for the Future - Select Issues'.
b. In his
inaugural address, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has cautioned
against cherry-picking of data by experts, saying correlations can conveniently
be used to establish "spurious causality" to achieve desired results.
c. He said the
central bank will continue to refine methodologies and use cutting edge
techniques for forecasting of macroeconomic developments.

India is now producing the cheapest solar power among
the G20 countries, an International Renewable Energy Agency
survey shared by the World Economic Forum stated.
a. The costs of
building large-scale solar installations in India fell by 27% in 2018,
year-on-year, it added.
b. Average solar
prices of large-scale Indian installations were under a third of Canada's,
where costs were the highest.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has reopened
the Apollo Mission Control Center at Johnson Space Center
after restoring it to appear as it did in 1969.
a. This comes
before the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing on
July 20.
b. The restored
control room, visitor's gallery and adjacent simulation support room's pieces
are original artifacts or recreated items based on original samples.
10. Indo-Tibetan
Border Police (ITBP) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Aparna
Kumar has become the 1st civil servant to scale Mount
Denali, the highest peak in North America.
a. Ms Kumar, a
2002 batch IPS officer from UP cadre is currently posted as DIG, ITBP Northern
Frontier at Dehradun.
b. She also
became the first woman IPS DIG and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officer to
successfully complete the South Pole expedition.
11. Odisha-based
Navaratna Company NALCO (National Aluminium Company) has been
selected for President's award for utilisation of Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) fund in social development.
a. NALCO was
honored for it's scheme titled "Aliali Jhia", which was
launched in 2015 to promote the education of Girls of BPL families.

12. In the ICC
Cricket World Cup 2019, England defeated India by
31 runs in the league match at Birmingham.
a. Chasing a
huge target of 338, India could only score 306 runs for the loss of 5 wickets
in the stipulated 50 overs.
b. As a result
of this win, England have now moved to the 4th position in the tournaments
standing.
c. India will
next play against Bangladesh, while England will take on New Zealand on
Wednesday.
d. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh
Pant featured in his first World Cup match after replacing
all-rounder Vijay Shankar for this match .
