1. (6th July)
is World Zoonosis (also spelled zoönosis and zoonoses) Day.
a. Zoonosis is
an ailment that is transmitted from animals to human beings.
b. Zoonosis is
derived from the Greek words zoon (animal)and nosos (ailment).
c. Approximately
150 zoonotic diseases are known to exist.
d. This day is
observed every year to emphasize and bring the problem awareness amongst
people, and teach them to take right action.
2. The UN
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) designated
the ancient city of Babylon as a World Heritage
Site.
a. The
designation recognises the civilisations of Mesopotamia and their contributions
to humanity, the Iraqi government said.
b. About
Babylon :
i) Babylon was a
key kingdom in ancient Mesopotamia from the 18th to 6th centuries BC.
ii) It suffered
damages during dictator Saddam Hussein's reign and when it was used as a
military base during the US-led invasion of Iraq.

Tunisia's Prime Minister Youssef Chahed has
banned full-face veils in public institutions and government
offices citing security reasons.
a. This comes a
week after two suicide bombers attacked security forces in Tunisia, killing two
people.

To honour, salute and pay homage to the Kargil martyrs and war
veterans, Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has
released a Kargil Tribute Song.
a. The song was
released as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Kargil
Vijay Diwas on 26th of this month.
b. The song, a
tribute to the soldiers has been composed by eminent Hindi lyricist Sammer
Anjaan and sung by Shatadru Kabir.

Jaipur was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO
today during the 43rd meeting of World Heritage Committee in Azerbaijan's
Baku.
a. The historic
walled city of Jaipur in Rajasthan, was founded in 1727 AD.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today
unveiled a statue of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at
Varanasi airport in the presence of Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath.

The UNESCO recently released a report titled the State
of the Education Report for India 2019 : Children with Disabilities in
New Delhi.
a. To be
published annually, the 2019 edition of report is 1st of its kind published by
UNESCO New Delhi.
b. It highlights
accomplishments and challenges with regards to Right to Education (RTE) of
children with disabilities (CWDs).
c. According to
this report, more than 1 in 4 children with disabilities between ages 5 and 19
in India have never attended any educational institution, while three-fourths
of five-year-olds with disabilities are not in school.
d. The report
also recommends structural, funding and attitudinal changes to ensure that no
child is left out of the right to education.

The Hong Kong government has approved
over $900,000 (over ₹6 crore) for relief
and rehabilitation work in cyclone-hit Odisha.
a. A total of 3
grants, which are expected to benefit over 45,000 people affected by Cyclone
Fani, will be used to provide hygiene kits, kitchen kits, water kits,
education kits, household items, and shelter kits.
10. After
presenting the Union
Budget 2019, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has
said the budge is aimed at the 10-year vision and 5-year
target for every sector.
a. She said, it
lays emphasis on the overall development of the economy.
b. She said the
government is taking all policy reform measures in a dedicated way.
c. The Minister
said the budget clearly indicates that behavioural economics has actually
worked in India.
11. Turkey
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sacked
the Governor of country's central bank Murat Cetinkaya and
replaced him with his deputy, Murat Uysal.
a. The move came
after months of tension with the government over high interest rates.
12. CBI
additional director Nageshwar Rao, who was twice appointed
as acting CBI director, has been removed from his position.
a. Rao has been
ordered to join as Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence
and Home Guard.
b. Rao was
convicted by Supreme Court in contempt of court case relating to the transfer
of supervisory officer in Muzaffarpur shelter home case.
13. Pakistani
All-rounder Shoaib Malik announced his retirement from
ODI cricket after the country's last 2019 World Cup match against Bangladesh
yesterday.
a. The 37-year-old,
who made his ODI debut on October 14, 1999, represented Pakistan in 287 ODIs,
scoring 7,534 runs and taking 158 wickets.
b. Malik had
retired from Test cricket in 2015 and would continue playing T20Is.
14. Dutch
footballer Arjen Robben has announced his retirement
from football.
a. The
35-year-old Dutch winger won 12 league titles in his career alongside 96 caps
for his country including playing in the 2010 World Cup final in
Johannesburg.
b. Robben won
two league titles at Chelsea and one each at PSV Eindhoven and Real Madrid.
15. Former
Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap has
entered the men's singles semifinals at the Canada Open Super 100
Badminton tournament in Calgary today.
