1. (4th
June) is International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.
a. This
day affirms the UN's commitment to protect the rights of children.
2. External
Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is on a
5 day visit to South Africa.
a. During
this visit, she is attending the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
b. BRICS - Brazil, Russia, India, China
and South Africa
c. The
meeting is expected to lay the foundation for the annual summit of the grouping
in Johannesburg next month.
d. The
other foreign ministers attending the meeting were China’s Wang Yi,
South Africa’s Lindiwe Sisulu, Brazil’s Marcos Bezerra Abbott Galvao and Russia’s
Sergey Lavrov.
3. The 3rd
Home Affairs’ Dialogue between India and U.K.
was held in New Delhi.
a. The
Government of India Delegation was led by Rajiv Gauba, Union Home
Secretary and the Delegation from Home Office of the U.K. was led by its Second
Permanent Secretary Patsy Wilkinson.
b. The
Dialogue covered a wide range of issues including cyber security, women safety,
organized crime, terror financing etc. and a need to put in place a
mechanism for timely exchange of information and intelligence inputs on
such issues.
4. The 29th
anniversary of Tiananmen Square protests / massacre is being
observed in China.
a. On this
day (4th June) in the year 1989, the Chinese troops had violently retook
the Tiananmen Square in Beijing from the pro-democracy
protesters.
5. India and
the United States have pledged to continue their strong
bilateral strategic partnership, after a meeting between Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis.
a. Both
leaders met on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in
Singapore.
6. Tomorrow
is World Environment Day.
a. For
spreading awareness globally, UN celebrates World Environment Day on 5th June
of every year.
7. To
focus on creating awareness among customers of banks, the Reserve Bank
of India (RBI) is conducting Financial Literacy Week, which
is starting from today (4th June).
a. Theme
of Financial Literacy Week : ‘Customer Protection’.
8. The
government planning to merge
at least four state-run banks including IDBI
Bank, Bank of Baroda, Central Bank of India, and Oriental
Bank of Commerce.
a. With
combined assets of ₹16.58 trillion,
the merged entity would become India's second-largest
bank after the State Bank of India (SBI).
9. The
government today clarified that the GST will not be applicable to
free banking services such as cheque book issuance and ATM
withdrawals.
a. However,
interest charged on outstanding credit card bills, and exit fee paid by
investors of mutual funds will be taxable under GST.
10. India today
received the first shipment of its so far cheapest Liquefied
Natural Gas (LNG) from Russian supplier Gazprom.
a. The LNG
has been delivered at a price close to USD 7 per million British Thermal Unit
(mmBtu).
b. Note : This
price is around 1.5 USD cheaper from the LNG imported from Qatar, which is
India’s oldest and largest supplier of LNG.

Culture and Environment Minister Mahesh Sharma has announced that a scientific
study called Colour Stereography will be done on
the Taj Mahal to determine its exact colour.

Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been
awarded the ‘Most inspiring icon of the year for Social Welfare’
award by the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF) for
his exemplary contribution in the field of social welfare.

The government today appointed IDBI Bank Managing Director Mahesh Kumar Jain as
the Deputy Governor of the Reserve
Bank of India (RBI).
a. He has
replaced former deputy governor SS Mundra, who completed
his three-year term in July 2017.

exam National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2018.
