Prime Minister Narendra
Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina have
launched 3 key projects via video conferencing. They are :
a. Rehabilitation
of Kulaura-Shahbazpur section of Bangladesh Railways.
b. 500 MW
additional power supply from India to Bangladesh via Bheramara-Baharampur
interconnection.
c. 15 km
Akhaura–Agartala Rail Link

India, Mongolia joint
exercise Nomadic Elephant 2018 commenced at Mongolian
Armed Forces (MAF) Five Hills Training Area in Ulaanbaatar (capital of
Mongolia).
a. Nomadic
Elephant is annual bilateral military exercise started in 2006.
b. It is
designed to strengthen partnership between Indian Army and Mongolian Armed
Forces.

Russia today began 'Vostok-2018'
at eastern Siberia.
a. This is
Russia's biggest military exercise since the Cold War, involving
around 3 lakh troops, 36,000 vehicles and over 1,000 aircraft.
4.
China and Pakistan have
decided to extend the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)
project towards Afghanistan.
a. The two
countries will speed up the project and extend it towards western Pakistan to
enable more people to benefit from it.
b. Note : The
CPEC project aims to strategically link China's Xinjiang with Pakistan's Gwadar
port.

As a part of the Bay of Bengal
initiative for multi-sectoral technical and economic cooperation (Bimstec),
a field training military exercise (MILEX-18) is being held at
Foreign Training Node at Aundh in Pune, Maharashtra.
a. All
member BIMSTEC countries, except Thailand and Nepal are
taking active part in this exercise.
b. Thailand
and Nepal will only be sending group of observers.
c. Theme
of MILEX 18 : Counter-terrorism in semi-urban terrain.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
today announced implementation of the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and
Control) Act, 2017.
a. The act
criminalises any kind of discrimination against people suffering from AIDS in
terms of treatment, employment and workplace.
7.
The 2 day Regional Conference on Good
Governance with Focus on Aspirational Districts was recently held
in Bhopal (capital of Madhya Pradesh).
a. This
conference was organized by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public
Grievances (DAR&PG), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions
in association with Madhya Pradesh Government.

Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain,
who passed away in June this year, has been honoured with 6 awards posthumously
at this year's Creative Arts Emmys for his CNN show 'Anthony
Bourdain: Parts Unknown' and its digital spin-off.
a. His TV
series won in five out of six categories in which it was nominated.
b. Bourdain
won Outstanding Writing For A Nonfiction Program award.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has
imposed a total penalty of Rs 3 crore on 3 state-run banks (Union
Bank of India, Bank of India and Bank of
Maharashtra) for delay in detection and reporting of fraud in some
accounts.

The mid-air refuelling of 'wet contact' trial
for Tejas aircraft was conducted successfully by Indian Air
Force at an altitude of 20,000 feet.
a.
11.
Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully carried
out it's 1st ever mid-air refuelling of indigenously
developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas MK-1 at an
altitude of 20,000 feet.
a. During
the process, 1,900 kg fuel was transferred.
b. With
this, India joins in elite group of countries which have successfully developed
air-to-air refuelling system for military aircraft.

Kolkata has
topped OpenSignal's list of 4G availability across all of
India's 22 telecom circles for the May-July period this year.
a. Top 5
in the List :

b) Note : Jammu

US technology giant Google has
agreed to store data from its payment service Google Pay in
India as mandated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
a. Google,
however, sought time till the end of December to comply with the regulation,
reports said.

Elon Musk-led space exploration startup SpaceX launched
a heavy communications satellite to the orbit today, completing its 16th
Falcon 9 rocket launch this year.

Veteran Tamil film actor Kumarasamy (74),
popularly known as Kovai Senthil, passed away.
a. He made
his debut in director K Bhagyaraj's Oru Kai Osai in 1980 and
acted in more than 200 films including superstar Rajinikanth's hit
venture Padaiyappa (1999).
16.
Haryana Government
has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil
Corporation (IOC) to set up Ethanol plant at
Bohali village in Panipat district with an outlay of over Rs. 900
crore.
a. This
plant will motivate farmers in its 50 km radius area to manage crop residue and
prevent straw burning and help to fulfill increasing demand of ethanol and also
bio-fuels for consumers of petroleum product.
17.
Ride-hailing startup Uber has
appointed former Coca-Cola executive Rebecca Messina to
serve as its 1st-ever Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).
a. As a
CMO of the organization, she will oversee marketing for Uber as it gets ready
for an initial public offering that is expected to take place next year.
18.
Ex-England captain Alastair
Cook today slammed his 33rd Test Century in his
last-ever Test innings against India.
a. The
33-year-old, who is retiring from international cricket after the ongoing Test,
had slammed hundred in his first-ever Test, against India at Nagpur in
2006.
b. Important
Note : Cook is the fifth cricketer to score a century in his first
and last Tests.

The Indian contingent finished the Hyderabad
Open 2018 with a haul of two titles :
a. Sameer
Verma won the Men;s Singles title.
b. Satwiksairaj
Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the Men's
doubles title.
20.
Triple jumper Arpinder Singh created
history by becoming the 1st Indian to win a medal in the IAAF
Continental Cup as he clinched the Bronze Medal.
