(10th September 2018) is World
Suicide Prevention Day.
a. This
day is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention
(IASP).
b. The
World Health Organization (WHO) has been co-sponsor of the day.
c. Purpose
of this day : To raise awareness around the globe that suicide can be
prevented.
d. Theme
of World Suicide Prevention Day 2018 : ‘Working Together to
Prevent Suicide’

The World Hindu Congress
(WHC-2018) was held Chicago, United States from 7th to 9th September
2018.
a. It was
organized to commemorate 125 years of Swami Vivekananda’s historic
Chicago address on September 11, 1893.
b. Theme
of WHC-2018 : “Sumantrite Suvikrante”, which means - "Think
collectively, achieve valiantly”. It was second edition of World Hindu Congress
and was attended by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.

The Tamil Nadu cabinet has
decided to recommend the release of the 7 convicts in the assassination
of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to the state
governor.
a. All
seven convicts are serving life term in the case.
b. Note : Rajiv
Gandhi was assassinated by a female suicide bomber on 21st May 1991, while
conducting an election campaign in Tamil Nadu.

Delhi government started
its 'Doorstep Dlivery of Services' programme to
make 40 government services including Driving License, New
Water connection and Ration Card available at residents' doorstep in the first
phase.
a. Available
at an extra fee of ₹50, applicants
have to call the helpline number 1076 to
request for the services.

The World Summit on Accreditation
(WOSA-2018) was recently held New Delhi.
a. It was
inaugurated by Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD)
Prakash Javadekar.
b. This
summit was organized by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
c. Theme
of WOSA 2018 : “Challenges and Opportunities in Outcome Based
Accreditation”.

India’s ace sprinter Hima Das was
appointed as Sports Ambassador of Assam to
inspire budding players of northeastern state to aim big and young generation
to take up sports seriously.
7.
Chelsi Smith (45),
who was crowned Miss Universe 1995 by 1994 title holder Sushmita
Sen, passed away due to prolonged illness.
a. Chelsi
represented USA at Miss Universe pageant.
8.
Bollywood Actress Aishwarya
Rai was honoured with the Meryl Streep Award for
Excellence at the Women in Film and Television (WIFT) India Award.
a. Apart
from Aishwarya, director Zoya Akhtar and actress Janhvi
Kapoor, among others, were also honoured at the event.
9.
The government has appointed a panel
under Bimal Jalan (former Reserve Bank of India
governor) to select the next Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) in the
finance ministry.
