1. According to data
released by IQAir AirVisual and Greenpeace, 7 of the top 10 most
polluted cities in the world are in India.
a.
Apart from Indian cities like Ghaziabad, Noida and Patna,
Pakistan's Faisalabad and Lahore and China's Hotan are also in the top 10.
b.
The only non-Indian city in the top five list is Faisalabad,
Pakistan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree
suspending Russia's participation in the Intermediate-Range Nuclear
Forces (INF) Treaty.
a.
Putin's move follows the US' decision to withdraw from the
treaty, claiming Russia violated the Cold War-era pact.
b.
Note : The INF treaty banned both the countries from stationing
land-based nuclear missiles in Europe.
3. The Ministry of Home
Affairs (MHA) announced that a riverine section of the Indo-Bangladesh border
in Assam will be put under electronic surveillance from today.
a.
The project, BOLD-QIT (Border Electronically Dominated
QRT Interception Technique), is aimed to check illegal immigration and
smuggling of arms.
b.
The project will provide respite to the BSF from round-the-clock
human surveillance.
4. The UK has
announced £2 million in aid support and established a new taskforce as part of
a global campaign to end 'period poverty' to
help all women and girls access sanitary products by 2030 and to tackle the
stigma around menstruation.
5. Vice President M.
Venkaiah Naidu embarked on a 2 nation visit to Paraguay and Costa
Rica.

The 8-day tour aims at strengthening bilateral ties with
the two Latin American countries.
6. Prime Minister Narendra
Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan (PM-SYM)
Yojana at Vastral in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The national pension scheme for workers and labourers of
unorganised sector was announced in the interim budget in February
this year.
b.
This scheme will provide monthly pension of 3000
rupees to the employees of unorganised sector after 60
years of age.
7. Modi also launched 'One
Nation One Card' which can be used to pay for travelling on any
mode of transportation.

Modi said that a 'common mobility card' can also be used to
withdraw money and to shop.
8. The Karnataka State Action
Plan on Climate Change, prepared by Environmental Management and Policy
Research Institute and The Energy and Resources Institute has classified flower
'Flame Lily' as an endangered species in Karnataka.

The flower, scientifically called Gloriosa superba,
is Tamil Nadu's state flower.
9. 49 days long Kumbh
2019 the largest religious congregation in the world,
concluded in Uttar Pradesh, with over one crore devotees taking the holy dip at
Sangam in Prayagraj on the occasion of 'Mahashivratri'.

Branded as 'Divya Kumbh, Bhavya Kumbh' (grand Kumbh),
the Uttar Pradesh government had made elaborate arrangements to enable the
pilgrims as well as other visitors to have a comfortable stay at Kumbh.
10. Veteran Marathi poet and
writer Vasant Abaji Dahake has been honoured with the
prestigious 'Janasthan' award.

The award has been instituted by Kusumagraj Pratishthan.

It was presented to Dahake by noted Marathi writer Madhu Mangesh
Karnik at Kalidas Kala Mandir.
11. Private lender ICICI
Bank is going to acquire 9.9% stake in Non-Banking Finance Company
(NBFC) Kisan Finance for nearly ₹18 crore.

Under the transaction, the lender will buy 1.49 crore shares
from the NBFC.
12. Ex-Union Minister V
Dhananjay Kumar (67) passed away.
a.
He was Cabinet minister for civil aviation and
tourism in 1996, Union minister of state for finance from
1999 to 2000 and Union minister of state for textiles from
2000 to 2003.
13. Actor Luke
Perry (52), known for his roles in TV shows like 'Riverdale'
and 'Beverly Hills, 90210', passed away.

During his career, spanning over three decades, Perry featured
in several TV shows and films including 'Oz' and 'Buffy The Vampire
Slayer'.
14. 1985-batch IAS officer of
Tripura cadre, Sanjeev Ranjan has been appointed
as the new Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Ministry.

He is currently working as the Chairman of National
Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Note : Nagendra Nath Sinha, who is currently the
Managing Director of National Highways and Infrastructure Development
Corporation (NHIDCL), will take additional charge as NHAI
Chairman.

Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah has been re-elected President of
the powerful Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
16. India captain Virat
Kohli has become the fastest batsman to score 9,000 runs
in international cricket as captain, reaching the milestone against
Australia in his 159th innings as captain today.

The previous record was held by Ricky Ponting (204
innings).
b.
Important Point to Note : Kohli was also the fastest to reach 4,000,
5,000, 6,000, 7,000, and 8,000 ODI international runs as captain.

spinner Imran Tahir has announced that he will quit ODI

years, two India bowlers, Jhulan Goswami and Shikha
