External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the Foreign
Minister of Kenya Ambassador Monica K Juma today
co-chaired India-Kenya Joint Commission Meeting.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu reached
Paraguay as a part of 2-nation tour of Paraguay and Costa Rica.
a. This
high-level visit to these countries aims at Indian outreach to the important
countries in the region
b. During his
Paraguay visit, he will meet with President Mr. Mario Abdo
Benítez, Vice President, Mr. Hugo Velázquez,
and President of the National Congress (Senate), Mr. Silvio Ovelar.
c. Naidu will
also address the India-Paraguay business forum and interact with the Indian
diaspora.

The 3rd edition of the bilateral joint exercise between
India and Oman, Al Nagah 2019 will begin from 12th of this
month at Jabel Al Akhdar Mountains in Oman.
a. In the
exercise, both the armies will exchange expertise and experience in tactics,
weapon handling and firing.
b. Aim of this
exercise : To enhance interoperability in counter terrorist operations in
semi urban mountainous terrain.

Pakistan's Interior Ministry today officially banned 2008 Mumbai attacks
mastermind Hafiz Saeed-led Jamaat-ud-Dawa and
its charity wing Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation.

India will collaborate with Bhutan, Nepal, Indonesia and Malaysia to
increase the population of three species of Asian rhinos,
including the Greater one-horned rhinoceros found in the Indian
sub-continent.
a. The five
rhino range nations signed a declaration ‘The New Delhi Declaration on Asian
Rhinos 2019’ for the conservation and protection of the species at the
recently held Second Asian Rhino Range Countries meeting.

7th March 2019 to be celebrated as ‘Janaushadhi Diwas’
across India
a. Aim of
Janaushadhi Diwas : To provide further impetus and create awareness about
the use of generic medicines.
b. On the
occasion of the ‘Janaushadhi Diwas’, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will
interact with owners of Janaushadhi Kendras and beneficiaries of the Pradhan
Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) across the country
through video conference.
c. Various
programmes would be organised at all PMBJP Kendras to increase the awareness
about the scheme.
d. These
programmes would witness participation of doctors, health experts, NGOs and
beneficiaries.
e. Note : Over 5050
Janaushadhi stores functional across 652 districts in the country.

According to data compiled by Centre for Monitoring Indian
Economy (CMIE), India's unemployment rate rose
to 7.2% in February, up from 5.9% in February 2018.
a. The number of
employed persons in February is estimated at 400 million, the Mumbai-based
private think tank added.
b. The CMIE
numbers are based on a survey of tens of thousands of households across India.

The National Annual Rural Sanitation Survey, NARSS
2018-19 has found that 96.5 per cent of the households in
rural India have access to a toilet.
a. The survey
was conducted by an Independent Verification Agency under the World Bank
support project to the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen).
b. The survey
also re-confirmed the Open Defecation Free (ODF) status of over 90 per cent of
villages which were previously declared and verified as ODF by various
districts and States.

The government of Karnataka has launched the
water conservation scheme Jalamrutha.
a. The scheme
focuses on drought-proofing measures, including protection and rejuvenation of
water bodies.
10. Union
minister Mahesh Sharma inaugurated 'Azaadi ke Diwane' museum, dedicated
to the unsung heroes of the country's freedom struggle, on the Red Fort
premises, Delhi.
a. Built by the
Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the museum is a fifth in the series of
recently inaugurated ones. Others are :
i) Subhash
Chandra Bose and INA museum
ii) Yaad-e-Jallian
museum
iii) Museum on
1857 (India's first war of Independence)
iv) Drishyakala
(a Museum on Indian Art) -- on the sacrifices of India's freedom fighters.
11. Israel's Beresheet
spacecraft on the country's first mission to the Moon has sent back
its first selfie.
a. The image
showing Earth in the background was beamed to mission control in Israel from
37,600 kilometres away.
b. Launched by
Elon Musk-led SpaceX on February 22, the 585-kilogram spacecraft is
due to touch down on Moon on April 11.
12. The Indian
Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced the launch of the Young
Scientist programme, which will train class 9 students in space
science and technology and its applications in order to culture a passion for
space-related activities.
a. The two-week
residential training programme will be held each year during summer holidays
for students from across the country who have completed class 8 and are
studying in class 9.

13. The Geological
Survey of India (GSI) launched 22 permanent global positioning
system (GPS) stations across India to identify seismically hazardous
zones and encourage mapping activities.
a. The 22
GPS-Geodetic (pertaining to Geodesy, the science of earth measurement)
observatories are located in Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur, Pune,
Dehradun, Chennai, Jabalpur, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, Chandigarh,
Gandhinagar Vishakhapatnam, Agartala, Itanagar, Mangan, Jammu, Lucknow, Nagpur,
Shillong and Little Andaman.
14. India today signed
a loan agreement with the World Bank for 96 Million US
dollars for additional financing of Uttarakhand Disaster
Recovery Project.
a. The Project
has completed more than two thousand permanent houses and 23 public buildings
and restored over one thousand 300 kilometers of roads and 16 bridges so far.
15. National
Institute of Technical Teacher's Training and Research(NITTTRC), Bhopal and Shri
Vishwakarma Skill University, Gurugram signed a Memorandum of
understanding(MoU) to further strengthen the skill development facilities
provided to the youth.
a. The MoU was
signed in the presence of Minister of State for Skill development and
Entrepreneurship Anant Kumar Hegde in New Delhi.
16. President Ram
Nath Kovind presented Swachh Survekhshan-2019 Awards in New
Delhi.
a. Indore bagged Award
for cleanest city for 3rd straight year in Swachh
Survekshan.
b. New Delhi
Municipal Council area gets cleanest small city award.
c. Uttarakhand's Gauchar was
adjudged Best Ganga Town.
d. Note : Swachh
Survekshan 2019 covered all Urban Local Bodies in the country, making it the
largest such cleanliness survey in the world.
17. TVS Motor
Company has bagged the International sustainability award - Green
Era Award for Sustainability in Lisbon, Portugal.
a. The company
also won the Quality and Business Excellence Award in
acknowledgement of its endeavour to create new benchmarks in product quality.
18. The Swedish
Academy today announced that 2 Nobel Prizes for literature will
be awarded this year.
a. The decision
comes after a sex scandal causing the suspension of the award last year (1st
time since 1949).
b. The Academy
in a statement said the Nobel Prize in Literature will awarded this autumn for
both 2018 and 2019.
19. With $50
billion wealth, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani jumped
six positions to rank 13th on Forbes World's
Billionaires list 2019.
a. This list has
been topped by Amazon's Jeff Bezos and family with $131
billion wealth.
b. America's
21-year-old Kylie Jenner has become the youngest-ever

Bank of India (RBI) has fined Yes Bank ₹1 crore for not
complying with its directions about SWIFT, a financial messaging
software.
a. SWIFT stands for
the Society for Worldwide Interbank FinancialTelecommunications.
b. SWIFT is used
by financial institutions to securely transmit information and
instructions.
c. Important
Note : The officials of Punjab National Bank (PNB) had
issued Letters of Undertaking (LoUs) on behalf of Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi's
firms over SWIFT without recording them in the bank's internal system.
